UnkJ? You can't check for bodies in the Pine Barrens anymore??
They are getting bad down here too.
At this past campout they had a meeting going over what is going on in Ocala Nat. Forest, about the only place close to us for us to wheel, boring as it is.
They are saying the trails will be "close unless posted open" meaning, cause people steal the CLOSED signs, that if it doesn't say OPEN it is assumed CLOSED! :snare:
We have an attorny on our side through the Florida 4WD Trail Riders Association, so :crossed:

The forest service has been trying to pass that for at least 5-10 years. With the amount of people who actually live in the forest, they would have to make sure that those roads have signs and then they will run into the problem of people moving the "open" signs to closed trails. The forest service is so disorganized, I don't see the 'Closed unless posted Open' plan taking affect for many more years.

I will have to get you more info on the attorney that spoke at this, She is totally on the side of the wheelers and is fighting for our rights across the nation.
Nothing will happen soon and the sooner we become governmentally activie about it the sooner we get on top of things

We have to also remember that closed unless posted open policy is a way to defend the trails from law abiding citizens like ourselves who don't understand that there is more than one way to post a trail open......MAPS. In Florida we need to pressure the FWS into providing accurate maps of the open trails/roads. Since they already know which trails and roads are going to be open in the majority of the forest it should not take too long to make the maps. We have to remember that just because atrail is not posted does not mean it is closed, if you can show the ranger who is giving you a ticket that it is open on a FWS approved map you should not recieve a ticket.

:yesnod: Excellent point, Neil. Hearing what the attorny had to say was very eye opening. And I love having good, up to date maps, myself.

I just wondering because it seems I never hear about Untied except when the anual event is put on. I wonder if United is just spread to thin to help the whole country. I know FFWDA is trying but I don't think they have the backing they need. It seems like most 4wd enthusiests would rather spend there last spare dime on thier rig than on trying to help keep trails open. As much as we would like to think it, we are not as big as the motorcycle enthusiests or gun crowd. Well get there but I hope it is not too long before we do.

All the state associations are stretched thin compared to the greenie Nature Nazi's bank roll. Plus they are offensive (in more ways than one) while we are defensive. They just keep coming, if one way doesn't close it another way will. They have found the easiest way is to sue, for the government the easiest way to get out of the suit is to cave. They are like zombie's you kill one and another pops up.

Yup, that is basically the way the attorney was explaining it too. She was very passionate about the cause, but like you said, they are stretched thin and the nature nazi's have deep pockets! The more involved we become the more power we will have.

The biggest problem is we are spending our money to keep our rigs running and on the the trails, then we have to spend more money to fight them so that the rig we put all that other money into can use the trail and all they are doing is spending all their resourses to keep us out. :tantrum:

We've spent a lot of time in Inverness/ Dunnellon area and have been run off of most of the trails by the Sherrif. # years ago the place was a prime wheeling spot.

But so go the trails in Florida.

Where we were wheeling was in the Withlacoochee State Forest, I think. There was a hunt camp that ran right off into the woods.
