Love the attention to detail.  Just read the whole thread start to finish and Man, nice work.  Getting ready to begin a build on a 89 Runner I just picked up.  Thanks for the inspiration.
84 runner stretched and pounded where it all started.
98 runner with duals and supercharger.
89 runner to build with my Son

Thanks for the comments!

I've been doing little odds and ends. Fixing rattles, PS leak, etc.  Getting ready for the Marlin Roundup.

Decided to try and restore the b-pillar emblems.  They came out ok, not great. I let the acetone stay on the plastic too long and it caused cracking.  Also some of the old paint was incredibly stubborn and I couldn't get it off.  Still they're considerably nicer than when I started.

My rear bumper contacted the body pretty good on the last trip.  To prevent this from happening again I made these keys that fill the gap between the top of the frame and bumper mount.  They're kinda goofy, but hopefully they'll do the trick

When the bumper would come down on a rock, the rock put on upward force on the bumper.  Because there was space between the top of my frame and the bumper bracket, the bumper could move enough to hit the body.

The spacers or keys I made, take up that space and lock the brackets in place, so they can't move.

If my holes for the bumper bolts were tighter to the bolts (smaller diameter holes), that also would have prevented the bumper moving up... I could use some weld washers to tighten that up, but I think the keys were a better solution

Do you have the bumper welded to the frame at all?

Rock lights are finally installed.  Ready for the import tuner car show... Or some night wheeling.  Maybe both.  I made some aluminum brackets with some of those crazy-powerful magnets to mount them.

See you at the Marlin Roundup tomorrow

I finally put a stereo in the 4Runner... Mostly to fill the hideous holes the previous owner hacked into the sides of the cargo area for 6x9s. I decided I didn't need a traditional stereo though.  I prefer the row of switches and cubby hole I have now.

I used a Bluetooth module directly to a 400W amp in place of a traditional stereo.  My phone acts as the stereo.  I can stream Sirius XM, my favorite local FM station (through their app), or even Netflix through the speakers.  Then when I'm wheeling and don't have a data connection, I have my music collection saved on my phone... No data needed.

I used marine rated Polk Audio speakers   The front speakers are 4" in the factory holes.  The previous owner had his 6x9s mounted right to the flimsy plastic panels in the cargo area.  That wasn't going to hold up to the high power 6x9" Polks I was putting in.

I cut out some aluminum panels and riveted them in place.  This way I could reuse the holes from the previous owner, but have my speakers solidly mounted.

Thankfully I used a nice Kicker amp with some extra features that allowed me to tune the sound nicely.  If you try a similar system, don't cheap out on the amp.  Since you're playing straight off the phone, you don't have all the sound controls that you get with a typical stereo.

Finally getting around to building my swing away.  I have plans for equipment between the rack and tailgate, so I needed to space them as far back as possible.

Wish I had welded the spindles into the bumper  1" farther back than I did.

Next I'll finish weld them on the bench and start building upward
