No it was a carbon build up example. The electrode was nasty.

The plugs out of Karens 4runner had carbon all the way up the threads, and a ring of it around the area where the Hex body meets the top of the threads on the cylinder head.

Bestgen has me convinced the plugs are not likely the "main" reason for the problem, they may be a part of the problem or just another symptom of the problem.  Since I reset the fuel map and things I can only wait to see if the problem reappears in a few months.
