SPARK PLUGS

What does it mean when you have black specs on your plugs?
And i wonder if I can replace the valve seals (the rubber piece that wraps around the stem) without pulling the head off?

Black specks on your plugs can be caused by detonation/pinging.
It can be caused incorrect ignition timing, bad fuel, engine overheating. The black specks are aluminum from your pistons and if the problem is not fixed it will destroy your engine.

the valve seals can be done, but it is a PITA.  rotate the piston to TDC on whichever cylinder you are working on.  pressurize the cylinder with Air Hold fittings and an air compressor.  slide the rocker to the side, and compress the spring, remove the keepers etc.

I think someone told me that the black specs were from a bad valve guide seal. The engin doesn't seem to be overheating and how can that be caused from timing?? My engin (22r) uses a little bit of oil too so thats why i'm thinking its the seals???

Does it look like this?

If so this is the common cuase of it (I know you said it doesn't seem to be overheating)

OVER HEATING – An extremely white insulator with small black deposits and premature electrode erosion.

SYMPTOMS:

Loss of power at high-speed or during heavy load
CAUSES:

Plug insufficiently tightened
Engine insufficiently cooled
Ignition timing too advanced
Plug heat range too hot

do all the plugs look the same. or is it different on each plug. i had an engine with bad valve seals and it would start with a puff of smoke in the morning after oil would leak  pass the seals and down the valve stem. after that it would run clean.  if their bad you should see some smoke.

there is smoke. And some oil loss? I'll check the plugs tomarrow and see if they are all the same. I'm pretty sure they are. Also I have cleaned the carb and it works good but there is a stumble in every gear when i ease on the gas while moving. Like when you let off the gas on the freeway and coast for a sec then just barley get on the gas. If i just punch it it skips that part and gets to business. It sounds like my idle jet is clogged but......the carb is clean. Maybe it needs a rebuild but I have a theory that my vaccume advance is messed up? could tht cause those specs on the plugs??
