Today I had a break in the rain and filled up all the fluids, installed the cross member, driveshaft and rebuilt and installed the shifter then finally bled the brakes. Before I opened up the front wheel hubs I took it for an extensive test drive around the neighborhood. It was oddly quiet. Transmission shifted beautifully and drove great. I am pretty sure that it was the transmission after all. Thanks again to Zippo "The gear master".

This weekend I put the parts that Zippo donated to good use on the passenger side. I filmed the whole process in time lapse in hopes of adding it to my axle service write-up thread.

What gasket(s) are you using for transmission shifter?

Ones that came in the marlin W-56 rebuild kit. For the shifter base to transmission I reused the original rubber baffle/gasket with the captured washers at the bolt holes. Nothing is leaking yet.

The rear driveshaft U-joint was going bad. time for a genuine Matsuba replacement. Vibrations solved.

I have been needing to use Old Blue for a daily driver lately but now that my 4runner is running again I needed to take back my battery that I had temporarily donated to Blue while I drove it since the battery that was in it had died. So I picked up a new red top optima yesterday for the Old girl.

Last week I drove Old Blue all the way from Seattle to Montana across the continental Divide and back and she did GREAT! of course the engine was trying to escape from the motor mounts but with H8PVMNT's help we put the bolts back in before I headed home and everything went fine. While I was at H8PVMNT's place I put together a front driveshaft with some parts I had brought along. After getting it all welded up I took it for a drive at 70 mph with the hubs turned in and there were only very slight harmonic vibrations that would be unnoticeable if I wasn't looking for them.

This is now the only Toyota 4x4 i own.
Bought a Jeep and was disapointed but not for the reasons you think.
Jeep is for sale.
All the lexus' and UZ junk is gone.
I tossed a 1kzte in the scrap the other day.
I have several other Toyotas left, some sold awaiting collection, some awaiting repair and subsequent sale, the remainder are having parts mercilessly torn off them and sold or cut up for the crusher for example; the runner i torched the front off this morning.
Wifes Rav4 has come to the end of its service life so will donate parts to the other for repair and following sale, then go to the crusher.

Maybe if you work in the accent a bit more, you could try and blend in with the Aussies? Those guys are born overlanders. Come out of the womb with an ARB quick deflator in hand.

Nate are You sure it's a transmission concern?
I reread the description You wrote and there's not really enough information to eliminate other possibilities.
Could it be the rear diff or t-case?

maybe it was the transfer case after all?
T-case rebuild kit arrived on Wednesday. Hopefully that solves the problem.

its a possibility, its got trail gear innards
and bits of mashed up nastiness in it, when i pulled the stick out of it when the G Series took a :pokinit: it looked like the gears had been sand cast in a hovel in Delhi.

i shipped the case from the UK with the gears already in it, untried, unproven.
Would you like me to fit 2.28's and do it again?
