Haha ya buddy!! That's what I'm talk'n about! Glad it made you think of my project. Were is this?
This is less than a mile from my house in Seattle. My wife would kill me if I got one of these, but I would like to see someone save them.
And I was doing to research on some of the threads, now I totally get the whole bumping up of compression and all, but I'm not entirely sure but isn't a high compression level motor not what I want to pull my truck/camper around. Or am i totally wrong on this.?? And if I'm right should I seriously consider trimming down those donut lips on the piston heads. Is this necessary for my aplication.
Did someone say diesel?
a 2f would put the number one cylinder in front of where your radiator is now I think. and they are crazy heavy. in a cruiser they are awesome but not in a small truck.for your truck I would consider shaving the donuts but this needs to be done on a lathe.
I probably spent around 1500 in parts and did all the work my self including wiring. It was worth it though! You have to do some fab work and welding. Engine fits in bay, need to get a rear sump oil pan though. Need a 3rz bellhousing and custom motor mounts. Exhaust can be run under the trans back to the correct side. Not going in to all the details. If not good with a welder and fab work might not be a good option then. My 85 is a dd got all the parts and finished the swap in 3 days by my self. I put the taco dash harness in my truck and wired it to my igntion and gauges. That was the hardest part I think. There r plug n play harnesses avalible and bolt on motor mounts but they will cost u. I'm getting better gas mileage and loads more power now.
Would it hurt me if I didn't though???
Nice bro thanks for the detail with story. And ya Glen IS the hybrid master, glad he's involved in this thread. And honestly I'll have to check my tach and speedo again, I'm out of towm till the end of the week(maybe longer), but if and when I get home I'll give a true estimate. But what was your top speed.? Cruising speed.?
5.29s and 32-33 inch tires I could do 75-80 mph on the interstate no problem in 5th gear, 20 mpg. Speedo and odometer will of course read faster than your true speed, so take that into account.Higher rpms within reason doesn't kill your gas mileage on these engines. Kind of like you typically get better mileage in 4th with a stock truck than you do in 5th on long highway. I guess it's because you are into the throttle less when you are near the peak or torque.
the main thing is to take a dremel tool and remove any sharp edges on the piston donuts and the edges of the combustion chamber. this reduces the hot edges from being hot enough to ignite the fuel mixture before the spark does. One thing for sure. if you were to take the pistons to a machine shop and have them mill the donuts off that would remove the chances of that and would keep the compression low enough you could run 87 octane and still have a better than stock. much better I think because you would have a 2.4L 20R
$150
So I'm sitting at 2800 rpm, at 55mph. With about a 1/3 pedal travel. Just checked tonight in 5th on highway. This is with 4.88s and stock tire size.Stock 20r, weber 32/36, lce street header, and cat.
Due to the high compression of the hybrid, when I build it, should I buy a head shim? $28. Thickness is 0.020" combustion chamber opening is 3.756" napa.
And the guy on Craigslist with the GM TBI said $600. That sounds VERY high? Am I right.
not bad but do it again with it in 4th remember 5th gear is an over drive gear and is weak. Use 4th as much as possible when under a load.NO, dont use a shim. get a multi layer steel gasket from D&J Rock or Toyota. DO NOT USE A FELPRO HEADGASKEThe's smoking crack, walk away.
