Looks like a fun trip!  Your 4Runner is looking great.  Sorry that your driveshaft disconnected on you, that'll put a damper on forward progress.  Remind me of your build again, lockers front and rear, and dual 2.28 transfer case gears, right?  In some of the video's I was thinking open differentials and on others I was thinking lockers.

It is crazy loud. I'm wondering if a eletric fan would be a good or bad idea. I dunno.

I ran the stock fan the whole time.  I tried an electric fan once and when i got on it the engine torqued over and a pully hit the fan and toasted the fan and my radiator.  Just make sure you have a slim fan if you go electric!

That explains churning tires on the same side.  I think a single rear locker pushes better than a single front pulls so you'll notice a nice improvement when you add the second locker.

I thought Tom Woods had already given you the long travel splines?  Does he have more than one length available?  I was just looking at my front driveshaft from Jesse @ High Angle but with the boot on it I couldn't measure the splines that were exposed.  I think it was a 12 inch travel and looks to be about split.

They are usually a 12" spline in our long slip shafts.   I normally Make them with 3-4" of compression at static ride height.  It can change between different applications though.

Mine has never disconnected so it must be right.

Rear Bumper! Still needs a few little things, some clean up grinding and paint. Frame mounts are 5/8 plate. Main parts is 2x4 3/16". 1.5" 1/8 wall Hrew.

I scored these from a friend of a friend who runs a bumper shop.

Got these from Ruff Stuff. I like them. They are made for 2x4 box.

Scored the 2" x8" reciever from a local trailer shop.

Tacking it all together.

This has a lot of welds. And it needs a few clean up welds and end caps. But I think It looks awesome.

Just what I wanted. Nice and tight to the body, plenty of protection.

Plenty of shackel locations.

I know a lot of people run the bumper back to the frame. I Might do this down the road. But this brace seems like enough. If I plane on towing a heavy load, I might add some bracing the the reciever.

Overall very happy with the project!

The bumper looks great!  The perspective in pictures isn't always the greatest, but is that as tight as you can get it to the body?  I know the rear tailgate requires some room under it to function.  Also, I think the inner shackle mounts will do more harm than good because they hang below the bumper.  The bumper will drag and hang up enough on it's own, I really miss my bobbed 85 sometimes...

With the bumper down I have about 1/2 inch or so between it and the bumper. I don't think I could get it much tighter. The tailgate hangs down quiet a bit when open. I agree they hang down a little but no more then the receiver. If I find it is a problem I will weld a rounded piece across them to act as a slider.

It will get chewed up by a steel cable, but if he goes with a synthetic rope...

I think I have a roller fairlead that someone can have if they need a replacement.  It weighs almost as much as my M8000 plus rope.
