So I just went through all 13 pages of this thread.  Had been kind of ignoring it because I though you were serious in the title about converting to 2WD from 4WD.  Heh, now I know better.

Super nice work, I'm in awe of all you get done on this thing!     I'm also super envious that you picked up such a nice rig for $1250 to start with.

I'm in Burien so maybe we'll see each other out on the trail sometime.

Hahahah. I'm not sure if they wouldn't ban me if I really did that and posted about it.

Awesome! We will have to go wheeling some time. I hope to be running and solid axle by the end of june! Need some good runs in before I drive to MCR!
If you see it, its for sale.

Cool, lots of locals!

Whereabouts in WS?  I grew up in Arbor Heights and lived for quite a few years in Highland Park 'til moving out to Burien last year.

Great Day!

I started my day off by getting some gas at the welding supply store. This welder, looked so lonely.

So I bought it and took it home. This is an awesome welder.

Fillet weld 1/8 inch.

Practicing vertical

helipilot77 helping test fit the 5vz.

Test Fit.

Mounts fully welded in and painted

Move the clutch mounting bracket.

MOTOR IS IN!!!!! It rocks realy bad with no trans. But it is bolted in!

Overly happy zippo.

Left to do:

-- Trans adapter
-- Install Trans/T-Case
-- Power steering line.
-- Fuel lines.
-- Cooling lines.
-- Wiring.
-- Starter/Alt wiring.
-- Cut hood.
-- Build intake mount.
-- Exhaust.
If you see it, its for sale.

Great day! Very successful. But my vote still says that he doesn't wait for the ORS harness and throws something together himself to fire it off. If that adapter gets here anytime soon. This thing will be back on the road.  :driving: vroom! vroom!

Still waiting on the trans case adapter from AA to get resent but got my FROR twin sticks!

Sucky news, I think I have to pull the motor to put the clutch hard line back in place. Good news, its only 4 bolts.

If you see it, its for sale.

zippo

So I got the corrected AA adapter and got it bolted most of the way up.

Ground the rear of the trans so the bolt will clear

Finally, I got the AC parts flushed by a local shop. Got it back and installed it in the housing. Also replace the the exspanion valve.

If you see it, its for sale.

So big progress! helipilot77 came over and gave a hand! This would have sucked to do alone.

Made my list for the day!

Pulled the motor back out! Put the new oil filter on and replaced the started cable.

Reinstalled the shorter hard clutch line.

Made the lower high pressure line with -6 AN braided steel. and installed it.

Trans is down!

It won't slide under, so We lifted the truck

Completed the fuel system. Even jumped out the pump. NO LEAKS!

The 22re Cross member won't work. It needs some mods. I am just going to weld the side tabs to the cross member.

So it turned out to be much shorter then my 22re. I will have to cut a some more floor out and add some back.

We also finished:

-Started installed with cable.
-Power steering return line and pressure line.

Left TODO. The list seems long, But a lot of it is simple stuff.
-Rear drive shaft/lengthen
-AC Lines
-Route Harness
-Install EVAP system.
-Install shifters/mod/weld floor
-Mod cross member.
-Install radiator/cooling system.
-Have clutch line made.
-Exhaust.
-Cut hood.
-Splice Alt wires.
If you see it, its for sale.

zippo

Got more little stuff done. I should have the crossmember mod done tomorrow.

I didn't like the flex line flapping around done there. So I found this hose wrap. It turned out really nice. Now I don't mind just zip tieing it to the hard return line.

Made a new charging harness.

Installed the new harness. after wrapping it and tapping it. Turned out nice.

Got the heater hoses installed. Also got the vaccum brake booster connected.

If you see it, its for sale.

zippo

Noone will believe me, but I got more done. Also dropped the rear shaft off to get it a little longer.

Got the clutch flex line made and installed.

Pulled the Sky crossmember and modded it. Started by cutting the sides in, then clamping it in place, then welding them on.

Welds looking good!

I'm not sure if I should add more bracing or if that is enough.

Painted and bolted it.

Heater hoses. Done

Mounted the evap canister. Working on getting it wired and plumbed

If you see it, its for sale.

I continue to be impressed. Solid work!

How long did it take you to learn to weld like that?  I want to get a welder this winter so wondering how long it might be before I can make halfway decent looking welds.

Still have another week or two on the harness.

I welded this flat which is rather easy. It doesn't take fo long to get ok at mig welding flat. It gets harder going vertical or overhead. Get some scap steel make some coupons and practice. 10 hours or so you should be good.
If you see it, its for sale.

84 yota dude

Excited to hear about the first drive with nearly double the POWAA haha!

zippo

More done today. Things are starting to slow down all the little things left take time. But I think its looking good.

The next big job and really only big thing left is cutting the shifters in...

Made a mount for the air flow meter. If you look close, the round stock is a 22r rocker shaft...

Evap is wired and in place. Need to make sure where everything is run. But is all but done.

If you see it, its for sale.
