I just signed up over here, been mostly on TTORA and a little on TW. Since I can't even make a new classified post, I figured I'd start my very own build thread. Besides, I've been wanting to for awhile.

I wanted a Tacoma for about 10 years, just never got one. In 2008 found my truck, 2003 Double Cab Tacoma, TRD, bone stock. So I got the truck, and married the girl that drove it. After a couple years of hearing " hey, I have drive this to work on Monday," we bought my wife a new 4runner, and the Tacoma was all mine.

I worked my way through a few iterations of suspension before I settled on a setup that I liked. All my trials are kinda boring, and didn't take any pictures, so I'll just start where I'm at today. Hopefully I'll have a lot to add to this in the future.

Here's how she looks today:

Current Specs:

Donahoe Coilovers
Dakar Leafs with the Dakar AAL
All Pro Front and Rear Bumpers and Skids
Bay Area Metal Fabrication Sliders
CBI Tire Carrier
285/75/16 Firestone Destination M/T
Pro Comp Alloy Wheels
...and all the little stuff

Welcome to Marlin's world from below Fresno! Where are you (generally)? I have a brother in Pleasanton and a son and dad in Sacramento.

Nice truck. I've been increasingly feeling like I'd like a double cab. Where was the pic taken?

Thanks. I'm at the other end of the state, on the North Coast, near Eureka. The picture was taken up at Slickrock. I love the double cab, no longer than an extra cab, but plenty of room for the family.

Welcome to the diseas

No kidding. The more I do, the more I want to do. So I start researching about what I want to do, then I want to do more. Never ending cycle.

I went to Eureka High School and my folks moved from there a couple years ago after about 30 years. Small world... :welcome:

Right on. I actually live in Fortuna, but I didn't figure anyone would know where that was.

So here is the master plan:

SAS with Toyota based Diamond Axle
Front Range Offroad SAS kit
All-Pro mini truck lift springs
Likely auto locker up front
Bump up to 35s
63 Chevys for the rear
Of course there is all the little stuff

After all this is dialed, Marlin Taco Box

Right now I'm gathering parts.

Comments/ suggestions are welcome and appreciated

Last night I finished refurbishing a set of stock hub lockouts. Media blasted and painted the dial faces, replaced the old banged up bolts with new stainless ones, swapped in Longfield hub gears, new o rings, cleaned and regressed everything.

Couple more pictures.

Had the shell on for the winter. That's my oldest boy.

Went and played over the weekend.

I have always wanted one of those Tacomas. I cant wait to see it SAS'ed and lifted. THat body is amazingly cherry for the hard core wheeling you do.

Stlstrs

I can't wait either. Nothing I've done has been hardcore, but I am trying to keep it as straight as possible.

Stlstrs

Been gathering parts for the last few months, but the man in brown brought the big one yesterday.

zidaro

Yeah buddy!!  now your playing with a full hand

Absolutely LOVE the 1st gen DC's and think they are the second best wheeling rig by far (best being the 1st gen runners cuz the top comes off).  This rig is going to be sick when your sas lifted, locked, and geared.  get ready to bend some sheetmetal ;)
might want to consider stepping it up and link the front instead of a spring kit- 4wu has a beautiful kit for your truck and it will way outperform the springs on and off the rocks

I'm pretty stoked to get moving forward. I've looked at those 4WU kits, and I want one, but at this point I can't justify the cost. I think if I had the cash, I'd spring for the TacoBox before links.

Wainiha

I love the girl with the golden hair, and the Tennessee stud loves the Tennessee mare.   Ha.  Sorry your comment about the Taco and marrying the girl who drove it...That song came to mind.

Nice axle.  I look forward to more.

It will be 65", including the ifs hubs. I'm going to start with 4.5" backspaced wheels, so I should end up with an overall width pretty similar to the D44 guys on 2"/2.5" backspaced wheels.

Thanks guys. I really like the double cabs, and the more I build this one the more I like it. I can't wait to get started. My pile of parts is growing. I should be ready to start some time in the next month or so.

Took a trip to Gold Lake back in August with the NorCal TTORA crew.
