^^^^ awesome post.
I've always heard how methodical he is with wheeling so i'm sure that is a big factor.

He wheels it, and he does get body damage.  It just gets repaired because it has to look good for customers.

He's at the Rubicon often and the Hammers at least once a year to lead a trail at the Tinbender's Jambo.

Sure he'll avoid lines and obstacles that are going to rash up his truck, but I would too.

HAHA  I know the answer to this.  According to Marlin and all the articles that have been written on him and his famous truck.  The only thing that isn't original is the bed.  Everything else is.

Body damage happens but it is possible to pick a line instead of purposely wraping your truck around everything on the trail.  I'm always impressed at watching smart drivers wheel really hard stuff without driving like a demo derby...

I always thought it was - the only thing that is original is the cab  :headscratch:  Either way, as was said, it's a rolling advertisement for the company and wouldn't be as good a representetive if it were dent riddled.

He told me last year that he has a very good body man to repair any damage the truck gets   and yes, he wheels the piss out of that truck on the hard trails without much damage but then again he is the master  :beerchug:

You guys have to look at hes got 15-25 years wheeling experence on most of us on this fourm. He is very wise and picks his lines carefully. He will not do anything retarded that you and your buddys might do to get a few laughs. He has more gearing choices then a airplane has buttons. I'm not by any means calling marlin a god or a old man, he just is wise and knows his stuff. He has replaced parts on his truck, incuding the frame which is very common with 1st gens as they have seen their 30+ years of offroad.

Frame is not original.  But let me tell you... I have wheeled two trails with him, in very small groups.  He is very smooth and ridiculously fast through the toughest sections.  He just picks the best and smoothest line on the fly.  But, I have a feeling that he has wheeled about every trail in the US at-least once.  He just is a certified ninja...

I guess it depends on how you see it.  I don't mind getting a few dents here and there but I am not going to run the side of my rig down some rocks just to get a weeew out of the crowd.

It has nothing to do with being scared.  It is all about knowing what your rig can do.  For example, I'm sure Marlin knows exactly what his truck feels like when it's getting near the flop point, so instead of pushing it harder and flopping, he backs off and comes at the obstacle a different way.
