If it's an 8" ring it will work. Search out how to modify your housing. It's pretty simple do make everything fit.

Do you need a different housing for the third? or can you just drill a hole for the motor?

The housing has to be clearanced for the elocker and ring gear. There are a bunch of writeups on here and Pirate.

Im thinking 05 and up thirds are based on the 8.4" not the 8". They use the larger 10mm studs for mounting.

NO,  the Elocker differential has a 8 inch ring gear.  I know because I have a 2005 elocker in my 79

the Elocker uses v6  PRE tacoma r&p and bearings besides the one LARGE bearing

the tacoma 8.4 has a HUGE truss  across the rear of the 3rd member.  the Elocker does NOT

you might to run the elocker in the rear. from the research i've done the toyota e locker takes a 5-10 feet to engage and is best in the rear for better street driving but essentially give you a spool once engaged, if you want a selectable locker for the front probably look for an arb. if im wrong someone please chime in.

im spooling the rear, ive had trucks before that were welded in both ends, and im fine with the way they drove

if you have had it with both welded why not spool the front, put the elocker in the rear so its open on the street increasing tire life, allowing for easier turning, and the lock it offroad and its a spool. just my 2 cents. seems logical to me but it seems you have your mind made up. either way good lick with the install.

I run a LP e-locker in the rear of my 80 truck and a HP e-locker in the front of my 80 truck 5.29 gears I went with http://www.inchwormgear.com for my wiring on both of the lockers cause its EASY and SIMPLE  and CHEAP  I also have a writeup on here for the e-locker  :turtle: :turtle: :turtle:
