man, did they even unbolt it or cut the hangers off the frame?

Mike D

Yeah they just unbolted the whole thing. only problems are that the left birfiels is broke and there is a big dent on the front of it where the ring gear goes but it doesn't his but i will just bang it out and put a skid plate on it.

i'd say torch/grind the dent off and weld an 8" pipe cap over it.  you'd just have to add a fill plug :beerchug:

brainlessfool

Well I think that you sould cut the bent cover off and get the gears chromed.  now that would be  :bling:
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

Actually the right side inner axle is clunking when i spin the pinion so maybe it is that. oh and does marlin sell a complete axle rebuild kit?

Marlin does sell a rebuild kit.  But the kits don't come with wheel bearings or the metal rings holding the wipes on.  Unless you need wheel bearings the Marlin kit is right for you.  You shouldn't worry about the dent.  I have one on mine from the rubicon.  You could totally tell it hit the ring gear but it has been fine ever since.  I just made a diff guard and it doesn't hit it anymore.

Shave the plug, takes all of 15 mins and allows you to slide much better. Then just pull out the two bottom studs for the third and use bolts. Takes care of the damaged nuts and gives ya drain plugs.

Trash the broken birf, keep the good one for a spare and throw in some longs or bells.

kyle_22r

i wouldn't waste my time with it really.  if you really want to go strong look at bobby long's new chromoly super birf set with 30 spline inners.  should be stronger than the birf eliminator kit, and around $630

Stick with Longs. Much easier to find a spare birf on the trail than a custom shaft. Also, I know of a few people who are deciding to sell their eliminator kits and going back to birfs.

I have a Birf eliminator kit & I would go with the new Longs if I had the choice now.

Just ripped the whole thing apart and holy crap its a piece of junk both inner axles are messed up and the driver side birfied is shattered ans the bearings for the inner axles are in about 1000 pieces just like the birfirls. oh and the kinda socket that the birfield sits in can that be gouged. :rivers: i am going up to meet the guy i bought it from with my dad in two hours and get my money back hopefully

Yeah I'd be on the phone pretty quick after finding that pile of  :pokinit: .Tell the guy you'd give him $75 for the parts taht are actually usable. Then you can use the rest to do the upgrade you were already planning on.
