5th 1st gen build

Just picked up another 82 4WD longbed from the original owner the other day, barely got home before I started ripping it apart.  It's bone stock, even has the original wheels!  My Dad bought a truck just like this brand new, & had it lifted on 35's, but was stolen a few years later.  I've always wanted to build him another one and finally found one nice enough to pickup for him..  So for now the plan is to clean it up inside & out, get it running a littler better so it passes smog.  I'll post some pics as everything comes along..

Spending lots of time on this thing..  List of everything I have replaced:

All the belts, hoses,

tune-up items  Installed new exhaust manifold studs, gasket, & hardware

Rebuilt carb

New battery & cables

Radiator & repainted fan shoud

Fixed numerous other issues from P/O

Hope to have it running by Sunday!

Also pulled out the original cluster, repined all the connectors & installed the SR5 cluster with a tach.  Took the cluster apart, cleaned everything up & put all new bulbs in it, looks like a brand new unit!

Wow, it's really clean for it's age. I'm mostly inpressed by the interior. I've owned several Toyotas around this age, none with as clean interior.

Had the factory wheels sandblasted & powder coated, with a new set of 235/15 BFG KM2's.  Next on the list is a new timing chain, guides, water pump, etc.

I've never seen a first gen with a blue interior, is that factory?

Yup, bone stock.  Just picked up a new headliner, visors, & trim from the dealer, its all blue.

Ended up yanking the motor/trans, found a rebuilt L52 & picked up a fresh 22R.  Starting to prep for paint so everything has to come off.

After much delay got all the body work finished & the truck primered.  The cab & bed are coming off for paint & the chassis will be pressure washed & painted satin black.  Pics to follow.

Any reason why you stuck with a 22R instead of an RE?

I still have the tan 82, had a few offers & possible trades but nothing worth letting it go for.  I have never had issues with  factory 22R carbs.  As long as they are in good working condition they seem to work well, & at this point if I'm swapping anything it would get a 3RZ or 5.3 GM Vortec.  There is not enough benefit for the time/money spent for a 22RE swap IMO.

Busy at the shop and with too many projects, finally have some updates!  Pulled the cab and bed, refinished the chassis and painted everything factory 857 Blue.  Had the interior redone close to factory and just got the drivetrain back in today!
