The new rig will get a build thread in the '84-85 projects forum, when I get my hands on it.  The new rig already has a small suspension lift.  Springs in the front, blocks in back.  Thinking RUF, and F150 or 63" Chevies for the rear, eventually.  The usual stuff... duals, gears, lockers.. when funds and time permit.

good to hear you got a new rid with more space. sometimes i wish i had more space for my dog so he could ride inside instead of being in the bed.

Sorry I haven't checked this thread in a long time.

Here's the 4runner the day I traded for it.

'85, 22RE with a fresh cylinder head and timing set, Rancho 3" springs front/blocks rear.  32" BFG's on 8" Cragars.

Started with stripping off bumpers and nerf bars...

Then went to work on the 80's graphics and rust...

Getting it ready for a solid white paint job.

Two of our 4 kids loaded up for a little 'wheelin.  Couldn't do this in the '81.

nice, exactly why i want to build a runner

Having a back seat is nice.  I had a '85 Xtracab, but there wasn't enough room to put the kids in the back.  I'm 6'5" and need the drivers seat slid all the way back.  The 1st Gen cab was really tight!

Thanks.

I don't have a lot in the planning stages at the moment.  I picked up a Lockrite locker a few weeks ago.  The front pinion seal is leaking.... I'll install the locker when I tear into the front axle to fix the pinion seal and rebuild the knuckles.

Sounds good so far I just redid my frontend and regeared wish I was a lil more patient and did my locker then but I guess its just good practice lol

I definately like the white better...

Thanks.

Now that paint and body work are complete, I can work on getting it geared and locked.

No updates to the build.  Just enjoying it as a daily driver and weekend wheeler.

At the rate I'm going, this truck will be finished.... Never! :moods:

Rebuilt the knuckles and installed a Lockright.  Saving pennies for hi-steer, a rear locker, 4.7 tcase gears and twin stick set-up.

I haven't updated my "build thread" in a long time.  Haven't been doing much building!   :-\  I put Lockrights in the front and rear axles, and a single 4.7:1 transfer case with twin sticks.

I should have built bumpers and sliders before going wheeling this past weekend.

I redrilled the spring perches to move the front axle up 1-3/8".  Making wide left turns now thanks to the push/pull steering!  I'll install hi-steer after this weekend.  Have a trail ride and don't have time to get it done.  Also mounted my 33" TSL's.

It's good to be back into 4wheelin'!  I took several years off.... forgot how much fun it was!

Body damage is unavoidable down here with our rocks and tight trails thru the trees.  Dinged both rockers and dented the body above the fuel filler door last weekend.  And busted the grill.... and dented the right side rear corner...  :(

I put the turn signals in the grill this morning.

I am well aware that body damage is inevitable, but get some Armor!!!! Bumpers and sliders will help you avoid some of it.

Regardless its a nice looking 4runner and I am happy to see you taking the family out and enjoying the trails.

Thanks Matt.  I've wanted a 1st Gen 'runner since wheelin' with my buddy in his sas'ed '86 back in the 90's.  The back seat came in handy on our last ride... our friend broke a D60 knuckle early in the day and had to hitch a ride the remainder of the weekend.

I'm trying to keep her lean!  Armor adds weight!  LOL

A rollcage is next on the list.  The trails we're tackling are pretty hairy.  After that I'll start on some simple lightweight bumpers and sliders.  I want to find a pickup tailgate or chop the 4runner tailgate so I can build a rear bumper at frame height.  My club members say I need a rear tow point for pulling their Jeeps...  :-D

I can understand wanting to keep it lean. But defiantly get some solid tow/ recovery points installed. You never know when they will come in handy.
