Definitely read professional instructions.  ZUK has a great page for everything Toyota differential....
http://www.gearinstalls.com/

After reading ZUK's recommendations on carrier bearing preload, I think mine may be a bit loose.  I'm not sure what ft/lb measurement "pounding the bearing cap one hole past tight" translates into, but I want to pull my 3rd back out to check it.

Adding on to my front bumper.

Spray painted.  36 degrees today.... looks like crap.  I'll have to sand it down and repaint it when it warms up.

Not sure if I like it.  Wish I had used larger pipe for the boner/stinger.  Might cut it out and re-do.

looks sweet. let us know how it is up front.

edit: just thought i'd let you know i started on my spring swaps, one f150 is mounted and looks like i'll be using the factory shackle hanger in its original location. i know we were talking about it. i snap a picture so you can see the angle with no weight on it. im definitely pulling a spring or two out of the pack though to achieve my ride height.

Aside from dual cases and a rear spool, it's going in a stock truck on 33" tires.  I seriously doubt I'll be able to break the locker.  I figure my stock birfields will be the first to go.  I have a pile of spare stock birfs, so I'm gonna run 'em til that pile is gone.  Breaking a birf could possibly take out a hub or the locker.  But at only $240 shipped from Drivetrain Direct, it's worth a try.

I decided to give the front axle a cleaning and new seals and bearings.  Probably won't be able to get the truck back together 'til after Christmas.

here is the picture like i promised. couldnt do it till now since i just got home from work.

my springs are mounted shortside forward and are centered with the original spring center. the shackle angle is at maybe 20 thats with only the top main leaf from the pack so with weight should droop perfect and at ride height should be around 45 since the back end is lighter. im going to at least try it out and move it later if i have too.

Looks good!  I haven't seen a close up pic of F150 mounted short-side forward.

I just noticed that Marlin Crawler is selling the Yukon Spartan lockers now.  Wish I'd seen that before I ordered from somewhere else.  I always order from the Toyota vendors when I can.

Hit the trails and rocks today to test the Spartan locker.  The truck climbed everything I tried to climb.  Horseshoe'd my tierod.

Rocks = 1
Tierod = 0

The tierod was bent when I bought the truck.  The previous owner had used it as a tow point.  I straightened it as best as I could, but it was weakened.  Highsteer is definitely in the future.  For now, I'm just going to sleeve it with heavy walled pipe or tube.

I was 15 miles from home.  Didn't have a jack, strap or any tools with me.  I drove it home with the front tires squalling.  Took several thousand miles off of those 33's!

hysteer and bigger meats  im gonna go snapp a picture of my rear on its own weight. finished it at 11 lastnight. dont have a ride height measurement yet cause im dealing with my rear disk swap. the calipers are not letting the rotors sit flat on the axle.

notice the shackle angle. im happy with it. if you need any pics or measurements for your f 150 swap let me know.

Shackle angle looks good to me. ;)

How far forward is the front spring eye?
'85 4runner in the works

81yotalove

5 inches forward center to center. im pretty stoked on keeping the stock rear shackle hanger and not having my front mount in the middle of my frame. should prevent me from getting hung up as much. i still need to address the higher ride height wont know for sure till i get the whole vehicle on its own weight and tires on. but i know it will go lower with bumpers, winch, sliders, tool box. so it might work out where its at.

CSR73

How much lift does it look like you're gaining?  Do you think frenching the front hanger would help keep it around 3"?  Ultimately, I'd like to be able to run hi-steer and 37's with 2-3" lift.

Your rig looks great, btw.  ;)
'85 4runner in the works

81yotalove

it looks like i got somewhere between 2-3 inches from the new springs and shackles (btw they are currently 6 inch shackles). i will report back when my truck is on is own weight on the ground front and rear. my f150 pack had 4 leafs and overload. i pulled out the 4th leaf at the bottom because it had a lot of arch. So right now my pack consists of 3 top leafs and ford overload. Im considering switching the ford for the toy overload because its not as fat. i think it's about a half inch difference. i liked my ride height before at 23 but the front needs to go forward and up so i can have the up travel i want  with hysteer and the rear needed more droop. frenching the hanger was my original plan and i might still do it later but decided not to do it now because i didnt want to cut out a lot of my frame and not plate the :pokinit: out of it, also the fuel tank is right there and this hanger could help from smashing it in. plus if you frenched it in one inch it would probably only lower it half an inch type thing. hope this helps.

your plan of 37's and hysteer with 2-3inch is definitely obtainable and you can still have some up travel up front. i will end up with 37's next time i buy. by the time these wear out i should be out of college and making good money.

thanks for the compliment i think its pretty nice

I ran 37s a while back with 2-3" lift using RUF and shackles and in the rear and didnt have much trouble. moved the front 2" forward helped but 2.5-3 would have been better but other than that they cleared with out triming anything

heres the build up with them

That looks good!  Plenty of room for 37's.  With a little trim, 39.5's might be a possibilty?!?!?  :)

i knew the weight distrubtion was off with the jackstands holding the front up were right infront of the crossmember, but i didnt think it was that off. well did ruf yesterday and got the front axle in and jackstand under the front axle. once i did that the rear shackle went almost the frame. so today i cut off and welded the shackle mounts back 2 inches.  i will post up some pics showing before and after.
81 swb 22re 35's

81yotalove

as promised here's the pictures of before and after the shackle mount move. the truck is on all four tires.

i was able to cut off and reused the stock mounts.

this picture is taken with nothing in the bed and i dont have a rear bumper not even the stock one. as is right now the rear is about an inch higher than the front but should level out well with armor and tools. just other info that might help i put 280 pounds worth of stuff in the bed (two front 35's and my friend sitting on the tailgate) and the rear sat half inch lower than the front. the angle is a little steep with nothing in the bed but when i put my stuff in the bed it is perfect.

csr: i know you were trying to get away with not having to move the rear shackle mount and i thought i wasn't going to have to as i showed you a few posts before this. But if you didnt cut your frame after the shackle mount when you bobbed it i would say just cut it off and move it like i did or run them long side forward like you were going too. the reason i didn't was because i think having it short side forward the axle wrap won't be as bad and im not bobbing my bed so that is my limiting factor for departure angle not my leafs.
81 swb 22re 35's

CSR73

Thanks for the pics.  I didn't cut the frame right at the shackle mounts.  Went out and measured.... I have 2.25" of frame behind the shackle mount!  Just enough!

Tell me about the combination of leaves in your RUF pack?  And is it more or less lift than the Downey springs?

Thanks, Chris
