X2 on the 2 phase axle build, I'm doin mine now with 5.29 open,  longs and Aussie next year. I hear there's a lot of trails in Santa margarita, my rig hasn't left my drive way in over a year.    :hammerhead:

Lol, pretty much the same here, hasn't moved since summer. I want to go with an aussie in the front too or maybe a spartan, both seem like good options. The spartan is a little cheaper though.

It makes sense that there could be some trails out that way in the hills. I might try to join poly goats next year too since my truck will finally be done. Maybe they will know of some other trails.

Your truck is looking good btw, especially with those 35's. Nice and low

Lookin good, think youll make MCR?

I really hope to, looks like it would be a blast. If I get a job I think I should. My truck shouldn't need that much more and I should have enough time to get it all done  :crossed:.

Thanks, appreciate it.

Well I was able to work on it again this weekend. Bled the brakes without issue, then came the power steering.

Filled up the reservoir and was about to start the truck to bleed the system when I noticed atf all over the power steering box. Looks like when the guy that I got the box from tapped the box he did the top tap too far to the left side which made slits in the side of the box that allowed the atf to leak out  :shake:. I put some jb weld over it to seal it and will probably put teflon tape also. Hopefully that will fix it.

Kind of sucks that I ran into another problem and it's going to have to sit longer until I can get back to work on it, but oh well. It's pretty close to being driveable again, just needs a front drive shaft and the bed to be put back on, but it should be done soon.

damn, that sucks. You will get it fig out tho, cant wait to see the truck done, whats the plan for color?

Yea if worse comes to worse I'll just get a new box and tap it myself. As far as color goes I haven't gotten that far yet. When I do get it together it will have a black cab, tan doors and a brown bed  :talkingn: I was thinking something like od green, tan or maybe flat red.

I think I'm going to take advantage of the dual case adapter on sale. I can't decide whether I want the standard or r-10 version though. I'm leaning toward the r-10 just because. I don't think I'm going to flatbelly soon which seems to be one of the main advantages of going with the r-10.

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

That's what I was figuring.

I have the sky t-case parking brake so I'm going to have to get creative with a new crossmember.

Peterbuilt84

Is the speedo extension the only other thing needed when you go duals, besides the obvious. I've looked up what you need and this was the only thing that jumped out at me.

I have seen it done without the speedo extension.

Did a little research and it looks like it can be done without, thanks for the tip.

I wish man, no time to work on it. I'll get it done by probably mid June at the earliest. If you guys head out to Hollister this summer, I'd be down.

Peterbuilt84

So, bit of an update. Went ahead and took advantage of the sale on dual case adapters and went with the rotated version. I don't plan on going with a flatbelly soon, but you never know.

I started to research into crossmembers and I think I'm going to either buy or build a kit similar to this:

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=972376

I was looking at the fror style crossmember, but since I have a t-case brake this should be a fairly easy way to do it. Only thing I don't like about the kit is there is no skid, but I should be able to add one pretty easily.

Well that's it for now. I would post some pics, but I'm at school and everything is at home, and everyone knows what a marlin adapter looks like

Peterbuilt84

Another small update. Found an interior cage on pirate, wound up getting it for $120. It's an older all pro cage, pretty stoked on that :smokin:

Was able to work on it a little bit a couple weekends ago. Everything was ready to go, fired it up to bleed the ps system, but the ps belt wasn't turning. Turns out the idler pulley bearing was toast. Another setback  :shake:

Should be going home for memorial day and will get a chance to work on it again. Hopefully I can get it driveable so it can be smogged. If not it's just a couple weeks until summer after that for me :woohoo: Once I get that together then I can tear it apart again for duals :gap:

That's the plan anyway, let's just hope everything goes a little smoother from now on  :crossed:

Peterbuilt84

Oh, picked up a new to me steering box too. Traded my flat pitman arm for a 3/4 less drop one and it fits perfect, really happy with that.

Promise to get some pics when I go back home too  :)

Peterbuilt84

It's alive!  :yikes:

Finally got it running and driving. Still a ways to go, but I'm pretty happy. Here are a few pics.

Made this panels a while back. Basically just a replacement of the stock ones. Used boat interior material to cover them, so they're water proof.

Sky parking brake, works great so far.

Has a question on the brake lines. Do most of you guys leave the connection between the hard line and soft line in the stock location or move it? Seems like it may max out on droop, but I haven't had a chance to flex it yet.

Any comments or suggestions are wanted/welcomed.

Peterbuilt84

Also ran into a problem when trying to put in the cage. It seems to be too tall for my truck. The guy I got it from had it in a 3rd gen extended cab and when I put it in I couldn't get it to stand up without hitting, so I'm going to have to cut and shorten it a bit. Not a big deal, would have been nice to just bolt it in though.

It's been sitting in my backyard upside down since I got it from you and when I went to get it today there were 5 huge black widows underneath it. I've been a little scared to work on it since then lol

Did you mean brake line  :dunno:
Thanks!

Does anyone remember how the bolts on the bed go? I know there were some that had the head with a piece of metal that sticks out, but I can't remember which bolt goes where or anything. :help:

Peterbuilt84

No updates, have to go in and get it smogged. To do that I need to finish the exhaust (just the cat now). Which leads me to my next decision; thinking about getting a hf bender. I need to finish the exhaust and I was thinking I could also make a bumper/ sliders out of sch 40 with it too.

So...thoughts? Not sure if I should do it or not. I don't have nearly enough for a tubing bender so that is out of the question and I think i could get quite a bit done with the hf bender. Input and comments are encouraged and appreciated.
