Looking forward to seeing you set up the hydro assist....wish I would've done it on mine right when I went to hi-steer...

I got it as a package deal with the high steer and figured it I'm more than lilkely going to do it so why not.

nice!!!! im liking that 5 stud upgrade..if i ever run another toy axle im gonna do that for sure

It's so easy I don't see why more people don't run it.

Peterbuilt84

Well I'd like to say I've gotten some stuff done on this thing, but I haven't  :gap: With christmas and everything else going on I haven't had any free time in the last few days. I'm going to get started early tomorrow and go to the junkyard to pick up a few things I need to finish installing my power steering and try to hook up my hydro assist. Then it's time to throw the axle underneath. I hope to get it roadworthy by monday when I leave to go back to school.

Did u get any goodies for it for xmas?

Got some tools and cash. Don't know what I'm going to spend the money on yet, suggestions?

Peterbuilt84

Small update :woohoo: Finally got the truck sitting on it's own weight. Still need a few brake parts (anyone have a 90 degree brake fitting they don't need?) and finish the power steering, among other things.

Does anyone have a pic of how the p/s reservoir is mounted in a second gen? The one I have looks like I need to make a 90 degree bracket to mount it to the fender. Oh and hydro assist is on hold until I have time to do it right (likely summer).

On to the pics...

That is how it came stock. I think it was for the stock u bolt plate, now it keeps the inner u bolt in place from sliding over.

If you could get a pic that would be great. I looked through the fsm, but couldn't find anything. And yeah I'm running 36" tsl's.

Lookin good. I think you are gonna need a flatter ptiman, your looks a tad more down than mine, and when im fully stuffed, the pitman contacts the spring. Im just lazy and havent put a flat one on. Lookin good tho man

I probably will. I was looking at the sky 3/4 less than stock arm, but it's pretty pricey and I don't know if a completely flat one will work. Oh well I'll figure something out.

Anyone have a pic of how their p/s reservoir is mounted? I've been looking with no luck.

Also heard Les Schwab powder-coats wheels for $25 a piece. Has anyone used them before. My wheels look like :pokinit:.

I dunno what Scott is charging per rim but, S&S powder coat by Costco in SC, is who I use.

I'll look into it. I'm still not sure if I want to powder coat or get new wheels with less backspacing. Thanks for the info.

Peterbuilt84

Just picked up a Hi-Lift X-Treme for $25 . Came with the handle keeper and lift mate too

Peterbuilt84

Well, got a few more parts. Picked up a t-case parking brake and spare 5.29 third. Just need to get all the parts on the truck now since I'm officially broke. Progress should be soon (when I get off for spring break). Hope to have it running/driving by and hopefully get one trip to Hollister in.

Also got to thinking, should I leave the front open or weld it? I wanted to put a lunchbox locker in, but I don't see that happening for a while. I have longs, but can't decide what to do. Any opinions or thoughts would be appreciated

Sparkplug

Id leave it open, and see if your wheeling style needs the locked front. It makes it a pain to turn sometimes, but all those times you were stuck in ruts, no matter how much you turned tires it would follow the ruts? Those days are gone with a front locker.

That's what I was going to do, but wanted to see if anyone had something to say otherwise. I need to get it moving first to test it out lol

Lock the front, get assist, twins, and for god sake com wheeling with us.  Post pics please.

yotatough

yeah if you got longs and the assist, then go ahead and weld it up and beat on it a little......

FRANKENYOTA91

I definitely recommend getting assist done before welding. I have the front of my truck welded and it is a pain in the  :moon: to steer unless I'm in the snow.

Where you wheel this beast?

I haven't had a chance to wheel it since I started the upgrades, but before that I always went to hollister. I keep the truck back home so hollister is really close. Honestly SLO kinda sucks wheeling wise. I hear there are a few spots, but if you don't have a go fast for the beach there really isn't much.

That's the plan :gap: lol. School takes up so much of my time that I only have a few days here and there to work on it. That and I'm broke. I really want to get out there and wheel though. Hope to make it to MCR this year. I really need to get a job this summer. Luckily I have everything for the hydro assist, just need to set everything up.

I want to see if I can find a deal on a lunchbox locker, but welding it is very tempting. The 5.29s in the front have zero miles on them though so I want them to last as long as I can.

Should have a few updates with some pics tomorrow. Want to get it running, then I'll be close

yotatough

yotatough

well if money is the issue, then I dont see a problem welding it up...

4RunnerChevy

Hollister it is then  :gap:

Peterbuilt84

I just want to get it out there first and see how it does first. I eventually want to lock the front, but you never know might come across something. I just rebuilt the front axle too so I don't really want to tear into it again either.

I think I'm going to have a second phase building my front axle too. I want to put the fror taco brake kit, so I'll probably do that, lock it somehow, and put on the hydro assist all in one shot. That's the plan at least :)
