I was a Diesel Truck Mechanic for about 5 years, and worked for a Volvo Truck Dealer. We did have to do lots of fabricating, but nothing like this. This stuff is coming from my imagination and this board. Ive done lots of research to see what everybody is doing, and asked lots of questions. Also, its nice having friends like Dean, Rocky, and all the other guys that work at Marlins.

I will start welding this thing up today. I didnt mention that my brother made me some steel plates to weld to the frame so the new crossmember can bolt up. I will take some pictures later, and probably get them welded up.

Ok, it was a pretty good day, I got lots done. One problem thoe, I ran out of gas in my mig welder, so I did the best I can.

I welden in some pieces to make it quite a bit stronger. The rear piece fit in like a glove. Check out the smooth cut.

Here are some more pics as FatBoy requested.

I also took my saw, and proceded to cut my camper up. I actually have two, so one will be chopped up like the first pics for the summer, the second, this one, will be complete for the winter.

I also put the tail gate I got from Ferg to see if it will lighn up. It did, but need to make some modifications to get the tailgate to open. I think I know what I will do for that.

Here you go.

For the two back windows, I will be using parts of the top I cut out, and mold them into place, so no more little windows.

I cut 11"

Im wondering what other people who bob their 4 runners do, I havent seen one personally, so Im owndering if they had problems, because I did. Especially with the tailgate. I wonder if thats why lots of guys with 4 runners use truck tailgates. I personally like the 4 runner tailgate, and plan on leaving it on, I dont care about the extra weight, its not that much extra.

Anybody have any good ideas on how, or where to put a spare tire?

Also, anybody know if it is possible to make some plexiglass windows for the camper shell with the bend at the top?

get a roof rack. it looks like you have room behind the back seats, find some way to mount it to the roll bar, it just might make it hard to see out of your back window

Is it possible to get a glass co to cut the original glass down to fit?

Yes you can bend the plexiglass to fit. You need to lay it on top of the original glass and put it in an oven. Start turning up the heat a little at the time. Give it time to bring everything up to temp slowly so the tempered glass don't explode. Keep adding heat until the plexiglass forms to the shape of the glass, then back the temp down slowly until it has cooled to the touch. This will take a while so I would see if you can find a glass co to cut down the original first. :twocents:

Good luck and nice work so far.

I see the argon gremlins have been busy this weekend huh.  :tantrum:

Yes I called, and I cant seem to find anybody who will cut it. I think what I will do is just get some plexiglass and bend it with a heat gun.

Then cut the windows down to the correct size
I dont know, but I havent been sure the whole time with this truck, just doing it by the seat of my chair.

Do you have extra windows? Draw a line where you want to cut the glass and put a piece of metal on both sides of the line so you can only see the line. Then use a sand blaster and dust back and forth across the line being careful not to consentrate on one spot too long. this will eat away at the glass till it is cut. This may or may not work so try it on a scrap glass first. Let us know if it work if you try it.

Just have to be careful not to shock the glass or get it too hot. Tempered glass will break into thousands of little pieces if you try to cut it with normal methodes. You may want to put the glass on surface that will support it and not put a strain on the cut as it gets thin so you can cut all the way through without it exploding into pieces. Practice on an old glass first.

Wow, thanks for all that info. I think im going to work on the wiring for now, and look into probably using plexiglass for the rear windows. I dont really need them, but thought it would look good if I put them on. Dont know right now. I am just going to seal the fiberglass for now, and leave the window cutouts.

I still have lots to do on the rear suspention, I have an idea to lift the back a couple of inches, and clear the frame so the tailgate will open.

I should be doing that this weekend.

Ok, its been two and a half weeks since Ive posted on my build, Ive been a little busy. I actually video tape weddings on the weekend, and have been busy with three weddings the last four weeks.

Now that doesnt mean that I havent touched my truck in that long, just that I really havent had time to post. Anyway, Ive been really busy.

I took a drive last weekend to Gilroy to meed Flip Flop. I purchased some Hanaman fenders from him and he met me half way for the drop off.

I also spent some time working on the transfercase crossmember, the bobbed bed, and the electrical. I purchased a whole set of seats, front and back, along with a whole new dash for my rig. This friday, I spent some time shopping for lots of electrical and other parts. Here Is the first pictures, and first day I was able to roll the truck outside with everything where it belongs.

It was late at night.
