« on: Dec 06, 2004, 03:22:41 PM »
im about to pull my hair out ,ive been missing around with this truck for about 6 mo.  an it has never run right . it  is a 90 4x4  22 re it had a blow motor an was in the mud when it blew an it sat for 9 mo. or so ,  i bought it off a friend  . i put a 93   2 wd  22 re that ran great  in it had to do a little wireing but  but nothing major  . my first mistake was i removed the tps  an put the 90 on it so i didnt have to cut wires  the plugin were differnt .  the truck ran  after a while missing with the tps an timing  an so on .but then it started getting hard to start when it warmed up like  the choke was on  i changed fuel injectors with the old engine put new maniflod an throttle body gasket  thinkink i had a air or vacum leak an so forth  now the truck will start fine run for about a min or so rev fine sound good an die .then you can hit the key an it will fire right back up an do the same sound good for a min an die . i cleaned the mass air flow  took the top off an an cleaned contacks inside of it , is there a way to check an see if its ok its like its funning out of fuel

You need to do a fuel pressure check. It could be the pressure regulator or the fuel pump, clogged fuel filter.

anytime you remove a TPS from a toyota it needs to be RECALIBRATED, as per the factory service manual.

the truck will buck at crusie, and surge and die at idle.

this is a simple procedure. it takes all of five minutes with a mutlimeter and a feeler gage set

Hey gizmo,

This happened to our local friend Louie from the Wicked Wheelers on his truggy with a 22RE. His would run fine for about 30mins and then die for no reason. Then it wouldn't start back up, but if you waited about 10mins then it would fire up and run fine.

I told him to all of the diagnostics I could think of including checking for grounds and everything, and then out of desperation I told him to check his ignitor and/or coil, and it turned out that it was his coil. He replaced it and so far its been running perfect.
Something wrong with his coil was causing it to die after x-amount of time. Weird..

:twocents: If you end up having to replace the coil don't buy aftermarket (autozone...etc) you'll B sorry. :tantrum:
Just a heads up a friend of mine got one from A Z and he still had a bad miss . Bought one from local toy dealer and the miss went away.
