this just in from Jomentum,  it has to be a broke wire between the 10 plug on the computer and the #1-#3 injector harness

switch out ur computer the short has to be in there if not then its shorting in the harness somewhere

I would look over the grounds again.

And are all of the fuel injectors not firing or just some of them?  Also did you use an  ociliscope (sp?) to make sure there was no pluse from the fuel injectors?

Glen could it be the wireing to the pick up coil or the pick up coil in the distributor. I had that happen one time the the little rubber gromet where the wires go through the distributor housing cracked and fellout and the wires shorted on the housing. took me about 3 hours to find it on the side of the road.

no scope, but i used a test light at the injector harness like the manual said to do and it didnt pulse, i had a friend tell me to check the injectors with a 9 volt battery and they all click. 

i did find that the white wire (ground for 2 and 4) and the white wire with red stripe (ground for 1 and 3)  are both wired together near the bottom of the inner fender

i have another distributor i guess i could swap them and see if it works BUT

when i tested the white and red wire  for resistance it showed the same as touching the test leads together 

but that only shows it is intact it doesnt show that its possibly grounded somewhere its not supposed to be

Probably the best thing to do right now is to pull the harness.  Its real easy to do.  And follow the FSM on resistance in the wires from the ECM plug in, and the connectors.  If I remember right on mine, when I checked my harness for any bad wires/connections, the signal comes from the ECM and then they continue the loop through the injector relay and back to the ECM.

is the engine harness just between the computer and the engine??

Pretty much Glen.  It just unplugs from the ECM and pop out the firewall plug, and just start unhooking it from everything.  It should be all the wires on the passenger side of the engine compartment.  And the fuse box isn't included.  That is separate.  You might double check, but I think the coil/dist should be coming from the drivers side firewall.  I know the turbo models, like mine, the coil/dist comes from the passenger side/ECM harness.  So, just double check.  It just wraps along the fender to the front of the intake and then along the fuel rail. 

I just used the FSM and a ohm meter to check the resistance in each wire, from end to end.  It's tedious, but you will know for sure that all the wires are in good shape.  That is how I found the coil wires on mine were fried.  A spare harness is also a good investment, that way if you find some bad wires or connectors you can splice in the same color coded wire in place. 

Just remember that the injector resistance/ohmage is different on the 88 22re's.  I think that was the only difference vs the older 22re's.

ya the harness pull out the firewall..ur dist and maf will be connected to the same harness as well as the tranny ... maf dist knock oilpressure coolant temp ac if equiped 2 wac reg 4 injectors  fuel reg emission pump reg throttlebody 4wd reverse neutral safety fuel pressure i think thats it im sure u know but its near impossible to pull that harness without first removing the upper intake hope u get it fixed i hate seein a yota broke down

where is the knock sensor?? cause i had a 41 and 51 code and it said knock sensor

hey glen had one com into the shop today doin the same thing run 30 to 40 sec then shut off i immeadily thought of this thread i pulled the harness stuck a spare on that i had same thing shut off scaned the codes 41 tps sensor circut low and 51 heater control circut 2 sensor 1 i cleared them and continued started the truck it ran fine till i tried to back it out then startd shutting off again? ima try a knock sensor in the am

What about the oil sensor or the charge sensor my sisters car did this and it ended up being a low voltage sensor from the water pump

hey glen stab in the dark here since its auto tranny ive seen some chevys not run bc of low oil or tranny fluid not sure but check the atf sensors on ur tranny
