Ammo availability in your area
« on: Jan 15, 2010, 12:49:40 AM »
We've all likely had trouble finding ammo on the shelves, let alone reasonably priced ammo lately, so I figured I'd start this thread so we can all help each other find what we need.  If you found some locally please try to list what it is, how much and where.  If you're looking for certain ammo, please list what you want and where.  Pretty simple, huh?!  :gap:

Right now the Redding, CA walmart has plenty of federal .308 ($13 box), 30-06 ($14 box) and 30-30 ($12 box).

Good thread!

I believe my grandpa makes the ammo for my mom's arsenal.... He might sell - I'm not sure.

It was all crazy there for awhile, but the shelves are pretty much stocked up in our neck of the woods.  I always get my stuff from Bi-Mart and they generally got better prices than big sporting good stores.

I've noticed a slight increase in the amount of ammo on shelves lately.  I dunno if people aren't stocking up as much, or of the ammo companies have somehow figured out to up their production (again).

Nowhere near where it used to be, but it seems to be coming back.

Sportsmans in Reno was completely stocked up with .45 a few weeks ago!

The reason for the ammo increase is because the military has recently shifted from training with larger calibers to .22LR.  This saves them a lot of money, which is a good thing.  The bad thing is that .22 ammo is really really hard to find for cheap now.

I'd beg to differ.  2 things hit at the same basic time: most hunting seasons were either open or soon to be open, and speculation and confirmation of obama getting into office pushed people to stock up before he imposed his 500% ammo tax.

People have since stocked up, and very few hunting seasons are currently open, so the drastic drop in demand is met with a drastic increase in availability.  Not busting balls, I'm just looking at the big picture  ;)

Bumping this since it's been so long.  Walmart is picked pretty clean on handgun ammo, with only a little .380 and less .45 left.  They still have a handfull of the more expensive rifle ammo left and a pretty decent amount of shotgun shells.

Big5 has a pretty good selection, but their prices are pretty high, though I did get some .357 stuff for a decent price.  I stopped by another sporting goods store (can't remember the name) and noticed first that their ammo was all 25% off, but they were getting pretty low too.

If dmv gets their heads out of their asses before february, I may be ordering some ammo online, but they're dragging their asses and I noticed they again messed up on the street address for my license when I got my new tags the other day  :shake:

it did pass. feb 4th I think is when it goes into effect, but don't quote me on that. Stock up via the interweb while you can. Cheap 62gr .223 is even getting hard to find online.

Isn't it just handgun ammo?  You leave a thumbprint and sign some crap, and are limited on the quantity you can buy?

99.9% sure no, just a program set up to frustrate the law abiding citizens to the point where they don't want to buy ammo.  Way to go, mr *republican* governor  :shake:

Sounds like its time for you guys to learn how to reload.

And up here (Oregon) there isn't really and shortage now.  Just that the prices are still to high.  And I love having a caliber that is still in need, but isn't in high demand, so I'm still guaranteed to find them on the shelves.  .300 Savage.  Hello Bi-Mart!!

yes, but part of the regulation is that there are no more internet sales. Every transaction has to be face to face. For me this means about a 600%increase in the cost of 62grain .223.

And the post regarding dual-use calibers is correct. It doesn't matter what you own, it matters what it can fit in.

You need to him Aim, or anybody else who usually has cheap .223, and start stocking up fast!

And Ryan, I think reloading supplies are included also, so reloading will have to be done locally and in smaller quantities as well.

Road trip to Nevada or Arizona.............................

I just went to my old job's website and it appears they have really upped their game. They are now selling reloading equipment and supplies online among many other new items they didn't sell when I worked there. Knowing my old boss, the inventory will only get better.

Here is the list of gun shows Miwall Corp will be at in the next 3 months. The Grand Sierra show in Reno is one of the biggest shows we did along with the shows at the State Fair Grounds in Phoenix. Gonna be a lot of ammo at those shows.

January 8-9 2011   Sacramento, CA   Cal Expo
January 8-9 2011   Salt Lake City, UT   South Towne Expo Center
January 15-16 2011   Bakersfield, CA   Kern County Fairgrounds
January 15-16 2011   San Francisco, CA   The Cow Palace
January 15-16 2011   Tuscon, AZ   Pima County Fair Grounds
January 15-16 2011   Ventura, CA   Ventura Co. Fairgrounds
January 22-23 2011   Fresno, CA   Fresno County Fairgrounds
January 22-23 2011   Phoenix, AZ   Arizona State Fairgrounds
January 29-30 2011   Costa Mesa, CA   Orange County Fairgrounds
February 2011
February 5-6 2011   Ontario, CA   Ontario Convention Center
February 12-13 2011   Vallejo, CA   Fairgrounds
February 12-13 2011   Paso Robles, CA   Event Center
February 12-13 2011   Del Mar, CA   Del Mar Fairgrounds
February 19-20 2011   Phoenix, AZ   Arizona State Fairgrounds   BIG SHOW
February 26-27 2011   Mesa, AZ   Centennial Hall
February 26-27 2011   Reno, NV   Reno Convention Center
February 26-27 2011   Ventura, CA   Ventura Co. Fairgrounds
March 2011
March 5-6 2011   Glendale, CA   Glendale Civic Auditorium
March 5-6 2011   Sacramento, CA   Cal Expo
March 5-6 2011   Las Vegas, NV   The Cashman Center
March 11-13 2011   Reno, NV   Reno Grand Sierra Resort   BIG SHOW
March 12-13 2011   Tuscon, AZ   Pima County Fair Grounds
March 19-20 2011   Glendale, AZ   University of Phoenix Stadium
March 26-27 2011   Costa Mesa, CA   Orange County Fairgrounds

If I can save enough $$$, definitely hitting up the Grand Sierra show in March.

if anyone ever goes to any of the central coast or valley gun shows, when you get to the door, ask for casey.  He's a good buddy i grew up with.  Always lets me in for free and has let friends in for free just for knowing me even when i'm not there(save you a few $).  great guy.  his aunt and uncle are the ones that put on the shows and he is at everyone as the CCW check in guy.
