I see, thanks for the pic  I think I'm going to do the same kind of thing, but with square tube since I don't have a bender.

Nice tailgate swap!  PITA to do but worth it in the end.  There's a crapton of sheetmetal to cut out.  Took me several hours with the plasma.  Your swap looks clean.  Nice work.

One suggestion is you might add some diagonal bracing from where the tailgate latches to the floor.  After taking some hard quarterpanel hits on the rocks, my tailgate barely opens & closes.

Thanks a lot! I used your swap as a reference. Yes is it was a pain. Don't own a plasma, so I had to use the good ole cut off wheel method which made it even more of pain. Destroyed many wheels and inhaled a lot of grinder dust and metal shavings.

Good call on the bracing. I think I'll have to do that. I got some 1" round tube laying around that'll work perfect. Thanks.

Like this on the inside?

That's what I'm thinking.

Yes!  I didn't have the ability to photoshop up that pic here at work.  Thanks for the visual.

Can't believe you cut all that with a cut-off wheel!  Your tailgate swap looks cleaner than mine for sure!  I only had 1 day to get it done so I kinda rushed it.

Nice bumper as well!  I'm still in the process of building mine.  It's halfway done (like everything on my rig, hahahahahaha).

Yeah it wasn't too bad. I also used a sawzall too. I really want to buy a plasma, but just can't pull the trigger yet. Thanks for the compliments.

I have had a few people that want to do the pickup tail gate conversion after seeing mine. You are just the 1st. It is a very simple project and adds a lot of space/ clearance.

Yeah a buddy of mine I work with just did the swap too a along with the 10" bob. I got the clean blue 4runner half section from him. He used a pickup bed rear half. Made the swap even easier and cleaner. I'll try and get him to send me some pics.

redrocket93

This happened today. That's a rear Tacoma 8.4 shaft, btw. Already fixed with a spare shaft I had kicking around. Looks like chromo rears will be in my future.

How did you manage to do that?

Bound up bad + 230:1 = Loud boom. Wasn't even that hard on the skinny pedal. Just really bound up and tring to climb two ledges with the front and rear tires at the same time and a rear tire in a hole.

Locker survive?  What kind are you running?  Better a rear than a front :)  Easier to change.

Yep, the lincoln locker survived, no problem. Put everything back together last night and drove it around town. Everythings good to go.

Just read the whole build thread, very cool.  Funny thing, I saw a pic of myself and my rig on page one!  That's my tan '85 4Runner.  I remember talking about your project, glad to see it, kudos man it's awesome.  Maybe see you again on next year's full moon trip! Cheers.

redrocket93

Yeah, I remember that. You're buddies with Joe and Justin right? Yeah that trip will be happening again this winter. Good stuff.

Thanks a lot guys.

Had an awesome time at MCR10. Truck did well. Successfully ran little sluice for the first time. Aquired some new body damage and sheared 3 knuckle studs. Awesome trip none the less. Forgot my camera, but should be getting some pics and videos from my buddies soon.

So jealous that you've got the Rubicon in your backyard!  Killer video!  It's crazy how close our rigs are setup & our wheeling style.  Keep the pics & video coming.  The Rubicon is on my list of trails to run!

Yeah it's pretty awesome having the Rubicon, Fordyce and few other lesser known, but still great trails within 2 hours of my front door. Your neck of the woods looks pretty sick too. Someday I'd like to make a trip out to Colorado and Moab and hit up a bunch of trails. You should come out for MCR next year, it's a frickin blast.

For sure man, good hangin with you guys too and thanks again for the knuckle. Keep the first weekend in November (5th and 6th) open for a Fordyce or Barrett trip. I need to catch me some Barrett lake trout before winter hits. Did you end up going up there this week? If so, how was it?

Sweet run through the box! Nice rig too!

Thanks a bunch man. Hopefully I can get ahold of my other buddies video. He's actually got the whole run on there.

Didn't make it to Barrett turned out I couldn't get the day off. First weekend in nov sounds good. I was going to surf and turf but it doesn't look like enough people are rallying.
