Well I sawed the housing apart and started milling them down to the proper size. I will continue in the morning and try to get it welded back together.

 I know, lets try to cut our finger off with the band saw.  Well the band saw isn't my first choice for cutting finger nails but it will work and quite well I might add. That only slowed me down a little bit till I could tape it up and back to work. :_oops2:  Any way the welding is almost done and then its on to setting up the shifter linkage.

:flamer: More progress to report. I located the proper steering box for this project and now have it installed. The frame hade to be plated on both sides and bushings needed to be made to support the frame from crushing where the bolts goe through. I plan to finish plateing the other frame rail tomorow and start mounting the springs to the frame.

Not yet, it is a little larger. I am going to make an insert to weld into the end that will fit. I may also need to shorten the arm or not I haven't decided yet.

Big Mike,

I started collecting this stuff when I was knee high to a grasshopper and have had my own body shop since I was 23. Started hacking up cars at 15 and haven't grown out of it yet. I am always looking for the easier way to do things hense the tools. Now I whish I had a shop again to spread out. I would like to be able to get into some kind of custom fab work because I enjoy making things. I may have to do a history of on my web site and show off some of the things I have done to date.

Thanks Mike, I would like to be able to meet you guys, But I am way over here on the east cost. Maybe some day.

He likes to make things! He certainly has a way with the understatement! He is one of the most inventive people I have ever met. I have been working  :whip: alongside him in the bodyshop business, fabrication business and on our own projects, for about 14-15 years now, and he never ceases to amaze me.   :cheer:  :smooch:

And wot he said about meeting youse guys one of these days. :beerchug:  I believe a road trip is in order in the not too distant future.  :driving:

More progress, Well we now have the front end mounted to the frame and off the jackstands.  I spent the day making spring hangers and shackel mounts.  :hammerhead: I finished plating the right side frame rail and welded the spring hangers to the frame.  :flamer: Mrs WM cleaned the steering box and painted it. :whip:  I have to make the same hangers and mounts for the rear springs this week. :hammerhead:  If my parts all come in before Friday I will be putting the engine in this next weekend :crossed: Soon we will be  :driving:  :beerchug: and not the other way around.

Ok either my typing is way wack or something is up.  I thought I said  This was was cool but it came out all wacked.

WHITE_TRASH

Willy, that is a cool idea about making an insert for the box.  That is the same steering box Im using on my latest truck, its also got the same pitman arm.  Its a 2" drop aftermarket arm.  What size are you planning on for the od of the insert?  I will be drilling my pitman arm out to 5/8" to use with my allpoo high steer.  But once I get Marlins steering Ill be needing an insert of some sort.  If youd be willing to make another one Id gladly pay you for it.

That is just a heavy tack, I hate having to cut my welds to move somthing. I want to get all the weight in this before welding it completely. I also need to plate the inside of the frame where the hangers attach.

Check with Marlin, The pitman arm that comes with the high steer kit has been done like this, Not my idea. If he can supply the insert it would save both of us a lot of time. Mabe he could offer this as a service.

This is one of the coolest Jeeps I've ever seen.  Stock Jeeps are pos's in my opinion, but when you go and put new running gear in em' I think they're sick.  You couldn't have picked a more perfect drivetrain to put under one of the sweetest Jeep bodys ever made!

Thanks guys for your kind words. I think it is pretty cool too. I realy like the old willys body style and I have always liked the Toyota running gear, What a combo, the best of both worlds.

Well thanks to UPS  :moon: we did not get the engine in as planed. My parts are burried in a trailer at the distribution center and they would not dig for them on Friday. I had called them way before to setup things for picking them up, but that was a waste of breath. So I did get the steering shaft made up and working. The steering collum comes through the floor too low to be able to connect it to the box so I had to make up a carrier bearing to correct the sharp angles. I also got the rear springs connected to the frame and there are no more jack stands. (It's free to roll)
  " Free Willy"  :ha_ha:

I am hoping to have a couple of early days this week so I can get the engine in before this weekend because we have plans and I won't be able to work on it at all. :crossed:

I hope everybody had a good Christmas and will have an even better New Years.  :beerchug:  :driving: and not in that order or you may end up in :jail:
