Glen, thanks for the email.  I just bought an 89 4runner sr5 auto 3.0 v6.  by the talk on these boards on the internet, I picked the wrong one.  true?  I guess I should have researched a little more.  I ride here at the old mines in Baroid.  I ride out at the jane ross foundation in bismark also with a buddy of mine.  he has an 85 truck. maroon with the big thrasher sticker on it.

Gittinit

Don't worry about having the wrong one, if its toyota its the right one. That will be a great platform to build.

the only thing wrong with it is the 3.slow.   just keep a couple extra headgaskets on hand and you'll be fine.

this weekend i'll be trading the crv for my new truck (weather permitting). gettin an 81 gmc regular cab longbed pickup. 305, sm465 manual tranny, 1/2 ton, 33" bfg at tires. yes i know its not a yota, i looked and the only 2 yota's i could find in my price range were 2 landcruisers. 1 (that 950 dollar one) has a bad tranny/t-case, the other was 1600 bucks, but had MAJOR rust everywhere. so i cant make it to gilmer this time, but i finally have a truck i can wheel without any worries!

well is it at least a 4x4 red?
why yes it is, and i'll be wheelin the crap outta it. its paid for, has a new ignition system in it, rebuilt carb, and new drivers door window track. 33's shouldnt tear up those axles (10 bolt front 12 bolt rear), but i have a complete front 10 bolt on my balcony i can strip for spare parts for when i'm on the trail. 6.5:1 1st gear, np208 t-case is around 2.2:1 ratio, axles gear are either 3.42 or 3.08, crappy axle gears but need to be fairly high since i dont have overdrive, feels like 3.42's though. paints faded so i dont care about scratches, spare body parts are everywhere out here so no big deal on body damage. and i wont have a car payment anymore, liability only insurace will save alot of money so i can actually go places and wheel, 1st time i've really gotten to since the silver/black nissan truck (over a year ago). :woohoo:
