Well if you have been following along I found a clean 82 after alot of searching.  She was about 300+ miles from home and she didn't quite make it LOL...

So after I paid $415.00 to have it towed the last 152 Miles. The next morning I pulled the engine....

More to come!

Lousy pictures but I wanted to show her off!  I think for an 82 she is damn original.

and the other side....

The spots on the passenger door are grease from me  :hammerhead:

More soon!

BINGO!  Check this out....

The bearings for the water pump shaft experienced a catastrophic failure!  The impeller on the pump was actually binding up in the block!  I think this may be what the horrible sound was and why the truck just up and stalled out on I-95!  I just ordered a pump from the auto parts place down the road and I'm going to put the engine back in today after I clean up the grease under the hood.  Man I hope this fixes her!  On that note, anyone need a new ATK long block...it's allready on the way here!  :smack:

Sounds like fun, I just about dialed in my engine on my 1st gen, getting ready to build, Ill keep an eye on your progress

Nice truck. Exactly like my '83 but nicer. I hope the water pump fixes it too!

It actually never got hot!  I know the gauge worked because when i started it, it slowly crept to the middle area of the gauge after the engine warmed up.  When the shaft on the pump let go i actually HEARD it!  I wish I could show you how bad the pump was, it actually puked the bearing out of the pump.
I just got the engine back in and did some major cleaning work.  Went out to start the engine and am am not getting it to light.  It turns over but no attempt to "light Off".  I double checked everything I could think of and even went and bought new plugs wires cap and rotor.  Any idea's?  The battery is a piece of junk and died after about 30 seconds so i am off to Sears to get a real battery.  The one in there looks like it's from a damn motorcycle!

Nah I know it's not that man.  It never got over 195 or so.  After i got the truck home and in the garage it fired right up and idle'd fine before I pulled it.  Only let it run for about 10 seconds because I knew it wasn't pumping water.  Either I hooked something up wrong or...?

Hm, if you pulled the entire engine it could be a lot of things..all I can think of are the usual things to check: spark, fuel, compression. Assuming you hooked everything back up correctly, I guess the ignitor or coil could have gone out. The carb is getting fuel? Seems unlikely (although possible) that something decided to die between the time the water pump went out and when you put the engine back in, so it seems like something must not be hooked up right.

Just double check all connections-coil, ignitor, distributer inserted correctly, grounds...fuel lines hooked up to the pump correctly. Figure out which it is, spark or fuel, and trouble shoot from there.

What are your plans for this thing? Build it up and wheel it or resto-mod?

He thought the bottom end went out because of the noise, ordered a new motor, pulled the old one and realized all that had happened is the water pump went out (hopefully).

Exactly!  It was the worst noise I have ever heard an engine make.  It also actualy stalled out the engine is was bound up so bad on the impeller.  If i could get the damn thing to start i would know for sure!

is the distributor turning when you crank it over??

OK so there is NO mark nada zero on the cam gear.  The pulley also has nada zero nothing on it so I had a hell of a time getting the Distributor in the right spot.  Eventually i got it close and it was backfiring through the intake so i went back a slot and Vroom!  She starts right up and idles nice, sounds very smooth.  I am VERY happy she is alive again and tomorrow when there is at least 1,000,000 fewer mosquito's out I'll bolt the hood back on and give her a once over.  Time to go get my License Plates!

crank pulley should have a tiny notch in the second groove

LOL about the cam gear.  Man you should have seen me out there pulling the distributor in and out every 90 seconds!  took about 20 try's!  There is a notch now that I think about it on the pulley.  Will my new timing light from Sears pick that up or will i need some kind of white pain on there to see it?  I got a Craftsman timing light with advance for my B-Day :D   Need a link to a timing how to for a 22r!  Thanks for all the help Coyote!

OK so i got her timed at 5 Degree's at idle.  Didn't do anything just warmed up the truck and shot the crank pulley with the light.  Engine was at about 12 Degree's so i turned her down to 5.  Doesn't feel quite as peppy now but still idles and runs down the road OK.  Runs a little crummy from idle-1500 or so RPM but if you put your foot in in and get the secondary open she runs pretty damn good.  I still have a few Vac hoses to work out, some the previous owner just plugged with a screw or bolt and some just have nothing on them at all !  :smack:  Anyway here is the most recent picture!  See if you can spot my super custom Battery Holdown!

Sneads Ferry, NC.  Many of the houses here near/on the beach are built that way for the view.  I thought it was awesome till the first T-Storm blew water and sand into my toolbox.  Framing in the bottom of the house to create a 1400' garage is the next thing on my list!

i will be watching this thread too. I should be alot farther along with my truck, but i put something on, then change my mind and put something else on. its been that way from day 1. your truck is in very good condition for the age, you should put alot of body armor on it if you plan on wheelin it

8D3TOY

Nice! Clean int. and same seats as mine.  Impossible to find seat covers for.  Is that the AM/FM ant on the windsheild post is that factory?

Thanks :D !  As far as I know that is the factory Antenna, the truck was owned by an old man who had a funky 80's shell on the back the whole time he owned it.

OK, started putting the pretty stuff on the longblock!  LCE hooked me up with some goodies!  Marlin is building my new 5 Speed HD Tranny and they shipped out my new 1600# Clutch today also! :clap2:  I'll have new pictures with progress tomorrow!  I also started a thread to ask about a nice lift that would be good for a DD here.....

The long block is going together nicely!  I hope to have it in the truck next weekend, then it's up to Marlin to ship my new HD Tranny!

Here it is with a few of the goodies on it....

And I threw the LCE header on just to see how it looks...

More to come tomorrow!
