What lift for my DD project?

Hello it's me again!

 Hey everyone, it's time to shop for the lift / tires!  I'm wanting to run a 33/12:50 BFG AT and I want just enough suspension lift to clear them with ZERO cutting.  My truck is very original and I do not want to cut any metal at all.  I was looking at this lift....

The version WITH rear springs (No Blocks I hate axle wrap!)  Has anyone run this lift?  I would LOVE Marlins 4" but it's more than my DD needs I think.  I just want to replace the worn out springs/shocks with new equipment and run a 33" tire.  After the lift my next upgrade will be Marlin's Hi-Steer kit.  He's building my new Tranny right now (went with the HD yay!).  Thank you all for any input you have, and please feel free to give me idea's on other Lift Kit's as well!  I'm looking for a new kit nothing from the junkyard, we do not have any decent ones here for miles.

After you put on the lift and slap on the 33's, are you going to upgrade your birfields and regear?

If you dont want to cut then 4" lift is right for 33s but thats more along the lines of actually flexing the axles.  If you dont plan to trail it then just get a soft lift spring.  Some fo the ranchos and tough country springs are like riding in a duce and a half.  Very rough and well what I like to call kidney punchers.  Spend the money on good springs or just do the 63 chevys and rears  up front.

Has anybody added leafs from like a S-10 or somthing similar to the factory leaf pack to gain lift??

i had the that exact lift on my truck and was not pleased the ride was rough had a bunch of body roll and the leafs started bowing up in the center i got the marlin 4in and am very pleased they are more stable flex better and are a better ride

Everyone wants to start off with the rough countrys or procomps because the price tag is so tempting....but after a year of enduring the rough ride and bouncing when your junking them cause they bent, is it really worth it???  Thats my experience at least.  If my truck hadnt come with the procomp springs when i bought it I def would've gone with 63s and RUF until i could shell out for the Marlins...

I've always installed a 5"-6" lift in my 1st gens which is equal or very close to MC 5" springs. I've had rancho, superlift, skyjacker and now NWOR. Back in the day I didn't know about MC. When $$$$ starts coming in again after getting a job I WILL be installing MC 5" springs front and rear. Longer thinner and more leafs is the way to go. My rig is a DD as well trail ready and I tow a 16' trailer with the toys from time to time. So, everyday comfort is a plus as well as the nice flex those springs put out. As for the lift? I never started with a 3". I knew that I liked 35" tires w/ 529's and went from there. With the kidney blaster springs I have now, I can stuff the 35"s into the wheel wells when necessary, just a rough ride that's all. Hope this helps.

yes  i have and it worked very nicely,

i used the top two leaves of my stock front packs and installed the 2wd S10 leaves under those  it rode GREAT,  and i ran them for like 4 years wheeling and daily driving

and if i had it to do again i would keep my stock steering


esp for you Nate because you want to keep it "uncut"   and you have to cut,drill,weld to go hi-steer

I am going to look into that, sounds like a great option!  All I want is bolt in springs that will allow me to run a 33 BFG AT and ride nice for a DD.  I plan on getting the very best shocks I can afford also.
  Where would I be able to find those and will they work front and rear?  We don't have sh*t for junkyards here....

look for the old kinda square shaped S10 its gotta be 2wd

the pack i got had 5 leaves in it and they matched the width of the yota leaves perfectly

you have to keep your top 2 leaves,  every thing else (on the front anyway) can be tossed

if memory serves me correctly i used the top leaf from the S10 pack and cut the ends off so it was the same length as the 2nd leaf in my stock rear pack, i cant remember but its all in my build thread somewhere

Downey is gone??? How do you know?  I know alot of people bash them but I thought they were doing well with Taco parts.  I guess their market for SFA trucks is going away, bummer because they were the best bang for the buck.

A 3 or 4 inch lift and longer shackles, 33's will fit like a charm.

A guy I know has the NWOR springs(84 Xcab) and his rides about the same as mine does with the stock springs kinda bouncy but his handles like its on rails even with 33's.
