So I got a motor question for ya. What is necessary to put a 20r head on a 22R? Would a ported and polished 20R head with bigger valves make that big of a difference? I gotta put a motor in my 85. What do you think I should do for a little extra snort without spending too much. I have that 38mm weber, and a header that will go on.

1st thing you need is a 80-84  early block,  then  the 20R head,  intake  that 38 weber  :woohoo:

Good news. I guess I will save some money cuz all I have are 85,86, and 87 motors. I don't really want to tear the whole thing down either. Would larger valves and head work make a noticeable difference in my 22R head? It is gonna come off to replace the head gasket and timing chain while it is out anyway.

port the intake side of the head, removing   the swirl from the port  and get a cam from LCEngineering.com  i suggest something with a .440 inch lift

and a header,

Thanks. I will check it out. Do these motors respond pretty well to cams?

a few notes on the 20r heads, some don't have provision's for a fuel pump and they came with heavy steel rockers.   22r aluminum rockers are a cheap upgrade.

On cams for 22r's stay small.  Larger lift usually requires machining the valve guides down so the retainers don't smash the valve seals.

Can't wait to see it with the hockey pucks!

Of course, at least they are not 3 feet tall like some I've had...haha.

Gittinit

Do ya think that the pucks were weak or was it just the idea of useing plastic between the body and frame that scared you? Now that ya got a little more height are ya planning on some bigger tires?

I want to remind ya to get those birfs, I'm depending on you. Do ya know if FJ40 birfs will work in a minnie truck front axle? The 60 or 80 axle I was supposed to get turned out to be from a fj40. :screwy:

IF  you have credit,  yes  they are cheap to rent

but  if you have had 3 major surgeries with no insurance  and the $70,000  in hospital bills  took what  credit  you had away  then  you cant rent them without  a $500  deposit  :thud:
