Dual Case Crossmember ?
« on: Jan 25, 2009, 10:39:52 AM »
Quick question regarding the dual case crossmember/skidplates sold by various venders....

I have an 82 that had the L52 transmission with dual case setup and was running an aftermarket (flat) dual case crossmember for 1979-1983, which worked great. Now Im going to be running a W-56 transmission in my 82 (doing 22RE conversion) which is about 6 inches longer and I am wondering if I should modify this crossmember or is there another crossmember that will work without modifications? Will a later model crossmember work?

If I have to modify this one, I know how I will do it, but Im really hoping there is an easier way....any ideas?

Wouldn't you only have to move the mounts on the frame and use the skid plate you have? The t-cases stay the same just the mount location will change cause the tranny is longer.

I don't think any other skid plate will make a difference cause your crossmember mount location stays the same.

yes just move it back to where it needs to be and make new mounts to the frame... its easily done with some angle iron!

Yes, this is true....but the question was, does anyone make a crossmember that is bolt in for this particular application.  Apparently not so I made my own brackets and it works fine.

Thanks, Bill
