if  a crank position sensor goes bad then the engine wont even start.  you have to have a signal from the crank and cam sensor for the engine to even run.  i'm gonna post some more questions on the supra forum and see if i can get more info.

well caleb- this statement is both true and un-true.
while they are required to be operational for the motor to start- these sensors are not set paramiter sensors, they are variable- meaning that in thier rpm range, they change voltages, much like a proper working MAF.
a clean with just a rag, no solvents, would be worth a few mins

ok, i was just going off of my dad's car. he has a 95 eagle talon TSI. it had a bad knock sensor and it wouldnt even start. but i guess thats because it was completely bad, not just a dirty or bad connection.  i was also told on the supra forum that the cam position sensor connectors are very finaky.  i'm gonna check into those and the crank sensor wires and see if things need to be cleaned or have some bad wires.

Haha you don't wanna wheel anything with a carb, a sb is worse than a 22r you cant go up a curb with out it idling at 200 rpms.

Tires were supposed to be shipped out today.  i would have gotten them already but i called the same wharehouse who i bought the tires from and i decided to order my wheels from them too.  they had to get the wheels from another store because i wanted a pretty uncommon size (17x9 2.5" backspace).  they were going to get them all mounted and balanced today, then ship em out as a package deal. It would be sweet if i saw them by friday, but i dont think that will happen.  it will probly be next monday before i get em.

thats not necessarily true.  my dad had a 400 small block in his fj40.  his truck was all linked with 37's and duals so he wheeled the crap out of it.  He rebuilt the quadrajet carb and blocked off certain holes inside. idk how he knew what exactly to do to it, but you would swear that thing was fuel injected! it ran perfect at basically any angle

Qjets are the best carb for 4wheelin, our 84 gmc suburban had a qjet on it and it never sputterd or died no matter what angle it was at

yeah my dad's worked really well, i was amazed.  but ultimately efi is the only way to go for wheelin. or propane, thats always a good option

i think gotpropane is starting to make kits for v8's.  not for sure though. check their website.
and yeah dude! its gonna be sick, all i gotta do is bolt em on and go!  (that is if its running by the time the tires get here  lol)

Did you get it figured out yet? Don't give up! Did you check the fuel pressure? Maybe a bad fuel pump? The lean plugs kinda point to that,along with the cutting out under load. The best way to figure this out is to get a chiltons manual for the motor and your truck and check out how the previous owner wired it in. How did he merge the truck wiring with the engine wiring to make it all work. Your going to have to go over everything like you did the install.

no i havnt figured it out yet. i havnt even touched it for a couple days. i had to order a new cps cap and seal from toyota, it should be here tomorrow. once i get that put on i'm going to work on it some more.  Its actually running VERY rich now.  i run it for a couple minutes and there is a pile of soot on the floor from the exhaust pipe.  I need to check my coolant temp sensor because i know it can cause a rich condition.  I am also going to take the intake pipe completely off and check it very thouroughly for cracks. Un-metered air coming in through a crack in the intake pipe can cause serious problems.  Dont worry man, i wont be giving up anytime soon!  you have the 22re-t 4runner right?

My buddy has an sr in his 240 and his turbo stopped spooling and it ran like hot garbage and super super rich like full on diesel status cause the turbo wasn't building any presure.

No I haven't started it yet.I need the trans in for the starter to bolt it up to. I hope to have it in next weekend. The snow is 6 inches deep down here. It's about 2 feet deep in the hills  It's killing me! I want to go Wheeling' bad!

Not sure if it will help your situation but you might try to rotate the MAF. I know on my supercharged car it ran much better.

i have checked everywhere for vaccum leaks and cant find anything. thats why i am gonna pull the intake pipe off tomorrow and look it over really good.  if there is a crack anywhere it will cause alot of problems.

Alright dudes i finally got the 4Dee's today   they look pretty sick! I'm gonna throw em on the Runner tomorrow and start figuring out how i'm gonna do the trimming.  I got some new motivation to do some fab work on this turd now!  It still doesnt run right, but i dont care at this point in time.  It's time to get out the  and get some s**t done
