damn cuz i dont wanna have to cut it  and move it back cuz  :flamer: will =  :tantrum:

Oh, i see now, its hitting the frame. You need longer shackles, and possibly a drop hanger welded further foward to get the springs moved foward and working correctly. I was looking at it wrong and thinking you were hitting the body mount. That is where the banana shackles come into play.

LilChief87

:tantrum: damn looks like everbody round me better wear ear plugs when i go to fix it  :outtahere:

mayberry

i would lust build some longer shackles and if it ends up hitting that body mount just trim it up a little. something els o would do if i where you is where your frame is cracked you soulld build new front spring hangers and with that you can move your axle forward a tad and put your longer shackles at the correct angle. i bulit my front hanger for 20 bucks

GJToyotabug

what you need to do is get a new front hanger to move the whole assembly forward you will have to get a shorter adjustable drag link and the J-arm flip to be able to use the stock steering. sky has the front hanger for $60 with out bolts and bushings marlin has it with bolts and bushings for $85 all pro has it with bolts and bushings for $90 it up to you what you want to do. good luck

LilChief87

so you guys think it be easier to just make a new front spring hanger adn mover it forward and hopefully that will stop it from hittin the frame?

mayberry

if your shackles are longer it will also give you a greater range of motion resulting in more flex

GJToyotabug

yeah you need about a two inch longer shackle and need to move the springs forward 1 1/2" to correct every thing

KDXSR5

lol, I tried to say this stuff up there, but I couldn;t get it worded right. Weld a new hanger further foward to move the axle foward and get some longer shackles. Then you should be set.

GJToyotabug

yeah todd it takes me to say it and then umm yeah what he said

LilChief87

haha ight that aint to bad then but still damn why cant anything be just a simple install but NOOO  :tantrum: everythings gota fight every time ahahaha :hammerhead:

Your truck is looking good.  I have a square shaft on mine and it works great I did put a few spot welds along the male sides of the shaft then ground them down so there wasn't any play between the two pieces then I just put a bunch of grease on it, and have had no problems. Also if you plan on running dual cases in the future you could leave it a little long.

thanks man i got all teh cuts for teh dovetail basically done guna weld it back to gether tomorrow cant wait and thanks for teh pointer

-Matt-

just use banana shackles, i have an 85 with stock front hanger and they work amazing and clear perfectly. when i first got the truck the front springs were completely flat and it still worked perfectly with the bananas, even with my new 'rears up front' with add leafs its still perfect. personally thats what id do until u put in an ifs steering box and some sort of hysteer. that way u wont have to fuss with making a new front spring hanger and moving the spring forward because if you do that your gonna have to mod ur drag link... which is possible, but if your only trying to fix that problem then the easiest way would be that. until u decide to put more money into the other components.

LilChief87

so if i do the banana shackle it will clear the frame again

LilChief87

oh got teh dove tail almost done just gota tack everythign up cut teh tail gate to size weld that in (im just guna weld the tailgate in) then get a grinder smooth everythign out and bondo it and bedliner teh bed oh and fit the fenderwells back in it

LilChief87

anybody got the link to where i can get a good set of them

i pesonally think putting bananna shackles on is kinda like putting a bandaid on a bigger problem

Lets shoot fireballs at it !!

i agree but its a cheap first step. considering its gonna be 400$ for legit steering and at least 50$ in hanger material if you make it yourself, plus shackles and having to lengthen the front drive line..(if its stock). 50$ to fix the problem in the meantime is pretty cool. don't know if you have first hard experience with owning them but mine work amazing. but i do agree that high steer and a new hanger is the ultimate way to go if you have money to drop on it.

84socal

na  i dont have experience  with those shackles      but  if u read above he already has to lengthen the driveline       i would just do it once and be done with it     again thats my opinion

LilChief87

i took about a foot adn a half to 2 feet out of the bed and said screw just cut the ends of the tailgate off till it fit good and then welded some new sides up on it and put some slide latches on the inside top bed rail to keep the tail closed and tight
