Frankenstein II - Going on Tons (Updated 2-5-09)

Starting a new truggy build up, I am going to stay as cheap as possible. So far I am about $500 in to it.
Im not home very much now a days so its going to be a slow build up.

Specs:
83' bare bones cab and long bed
83' long bed frame
stock 4:10 thirds welded
old school all pro high steer
rears up front chevys out back

Need to get:
possible 4.3 chevy motor
700r4 tranny
4.7 gears for the t case

picking up some 63" chevys and a new rear axle on thursday. I am taking next week off so hopefully ill be able to get some work done.

got a few more parts and started to work on the front end today.

Hanging the rears up front.


picked up a complete rearend and 63" chevys from DCabTaco (thanks buddy  :biggthumpup:)



I need some help on what to do, to hang the chevys.
Anybody have some ideas?  :help:

got the front mocked up with the springs from the rear.


also working on the rear end I mocked up some shackles to the chevy springs and noticed there is only an 1/8" gap on each side. so i am going to find some 1/8" spacers and see how it works.

something isnt right with the front end




when you put the rears up front are you supposed to flip the springs around? The angle on the third is like 90deg.

I would think the longer end of the springs would go up front to allow more compression  :dunno:

oh yeah, I also picked up some bling from sky manuf. to mount the chevys

picked up the motor and tranny today. TBI 4.3 chevy with 700r4 tranny. All I need to do is clean it up and change the output shaft on the tranny. Also need to get an adapter to mate the chevy tranny and toyota tcase  :crossed:

thanks dude. I still have my 40, i basically have everything for it ready to go, the only thing holding me back on it is time. Its in my buddies garage and he is the brains behind the build so i have to have time to hook up with him and get it finished.

I have not personally done rears up front before, but I think that the longer part (bushing to pin) is usually put in the rear to push the front axle further towards the front of the truck. 

I don't know if it will work for you, but I have this 4.7 T-Case, 23 spline

For the rears up front you may need to buy or fab a drop hanger for the front. Some rears have more arch to them than others, yours look to have more life in them. For mine I used some degree shims and a drop hanger to get a good pinion angle but still keep the improved approach. If you want to take advantage of moving the axle forward then the long end of the spring goes to the back.  :twocents:

yeah i have been reading up on them and it seems like everybody does a drop hanger in front. Ill have to pick one up I guess.  :thumbs:

finally finished the axle, man thats a lot of welding. now i can rebuild it and get it on.



got the hood mocked up for now, i got to figure out how much to narrow it.
