ive got a whole set of doors to cut up for halves on my 90 4runner, hoping to get to them befor summer, and i need to build a set for my crawler too.  by the time im done, i should be an expert at these.

Not the greatest shot.  But here's my rig at last years Marlin Crawler Round Up on the Rubicon with my 3rd set of half doors.

They're not perfect.  But they work. I have another set of doors I'm going to cut down one of these days.  Every set has been changed from the last one.  I figure another set or two and I'll have them the way I want them.

Keep up the Great work Everyone!

What have you guys been doing for latches, retaining the stock ones?

yes then there are many ways to rig them up to open

Yes.  I retained the original latch mechanism.  But i removed the outer handle and relocated the inner handle.  I have seen tube doors with everything from gate latches and drop in pins to stock latch assemblies.  But I think Half-doors are more limited, at least if you retain most of the door.

Has anybody made "windows" for their half doors?  That's my next step.  But I'm not sure if I'll do it for my current set or if I'm going to build another set, then build windows?

wat yal doin on the inside of your doors??

Well my cheapo half doors I just took the stock blue interior trim and cut it down to size. Then I folded it over the top and to the inside to make resting your arms on them a little more comfortable. I'll try to remember to go take some pictures but they are currently buried in the garage

Well you could always diamond plate the inside of the door. I thought about doing that.

Nice job with the plywood and fiberglass!

I haven't taken the time to finish the inside of a set yet.  I'm still working on the outer dimensions.  But I think I'll use some plastic or something to finish the inside on my final build.  Although I do have 1 set of inner panels sitting around. . .

How about these? My first attempt. Still need to finish fill and sand, then paint. Relocated latch to bottom rear inside.

Those are pretty clean too love those. I don't think they are too low, the only reason I'm thinking about half doors is to keep truck looking clean instead of doors off

One thing to think about too with half doors is that they help keep stuff from falling out, prevent a decent amount of the stuff that gets flung up on the trail (mud, rocks, sand, water) from getting in the cab, and provides at least a little bit of a barrier between the rocks on the outside, and your bodies on the inside. I personally would not rock no doors on the trail.

thats what i was thinking when i did mine, i have plenty of door where the mud will be coming in, and plenty of room to poke my head out in the right spot
