The truck the engine came out of. Mark has the story about it but it is very low mileage. I think he said it was the owners truck and he just let it sit till the body rusted off around it and they pulled the motor. The one guy here is thinking it has about 40-60K on it WOW!

Mark doing a Marlin with the guys at the place explaing all about the SD and KZT motors

Oh.. and good advice at Dundee Automotive... don't step in the sheep poo...

It appears the yard is patrolled at night by highlytrained killer attack sheep!
I didn't actually see the sheep, very steathly ninja sheep :ninja:
But the signs of them were everywhere.

Mark will have to explain just how he got to hunting for it, but he found it on eBay. The guy in OH had picked it up in AZ and didn't have time for a project.

The SD22 is the engine we had in the Mammoth before swapping it out for the 1KTZE. Both are diesel. The SD22 wasa 4-cyl and 65 HP and as you will recall it was all it could do to get up to speed at all.
The 1kTZE is a 3L turbo diesel with (I think) 120HP and 200~something ft/lb of torque at 1500(?) rpm

The SD33 is a turbo diesel. The SD's were built by Nissan and installed in Scout II (thanks WT!). I don't know the specs on the SD33. (Mark just got in the truck - 101hp at 3800rpm)
BUT it was $500 ($700 with the tranny/transfer case - with granny low!) as compared to $5~THOUSAND dollars for the 3KTZ - manual tranny.
We are also getting the stock Dana 44's from the Scout and the power steering box for another $500 I think it was.

The 1KZT is in stuff like the Toyota Surf over in those cool countries that can have Toyota Diesels and you can only get them as am import here.
The EPA is really cracking down on them and they are harder and harder to come by.

Scout dana 44 axles are a odd axle. Why use them when you can get a better axle for cheap. The rear 44 isn't to bad though, I like the fact that the axle retainers bolt to the flange on the tubee end like the toyota rears.
If you need some extra inner/stub axles for that scout let me know. I have a set, for thre front, somewhere I would almost give away. They are out of a 75, with disc, and should be the desirable ones, as far as stock 30 year old stuff goes.
Hug your kids, pray for a soldier, and don't sweat the small stuff.

Willy Mammoth

I got the 44's cause the spring purches and width are the same as the original axles. They are also strong enough to support the weight of the SD33. I also got the springs from the Scout.
I didn't want to put that much weight on Toyota axles in fear they would be prone to bending. I may be sorry later if I break the U joints or R&P.

Some how I wound up getting this, cause I was looking for a cheap truck to drive after we trade in the F250.  :smack:  How the hell do I get myself into these things  :shake:

Actually the plan had always been that we were going to get one of those to build as a DD/light trail rig so we could take the dogs with us too, and sleep in it when it wasn't worth taking the LBC out.
So he figured, rather then spending the money on a beater now might as well start on what we want. Of course we were thinking he might be able to get this running with the engine it had in it.
When he found the deal on the motor so close to that we couldn't pass it up

:shake: oh well. The best laid plans and all that..it was a fun road trip  and it will be so cool in the long run! Imagine seeing the Mammoth towed by this?

It could be ready, it just isn't going.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5
