horse power yota junkies!!!!!
« on: Dec 17, 2007, 10:32:50 PM »
Well I thought I might be able to buy another yota (05 taco) but I can't so I am gonna keep my truck around for a little longer. My question is... I have an 85 carbed on 37s (5.29) I want to hop it up a little. I have a sand rail and I need to be able to tow it. They are like 1200+ and with a trailer and camping gear, right around 2000 lbs give or take. I doubt my little 88 hp 22r will pull that much. So what are my options. Im pretty much broke so I am not looking to spend a ton of money and it still has to pass Ca smog. I was thinking like port, polish, a header/ 2 1/4 exhaust, and a mild cam. I don't want to do a stroker and I want it to keep it reliable. Let me know! Thanks Cody

that sounds like you got the right idea already, besides the efi swap and high flow injectors, and tuning the mass air flow sensor

dude,  dont worry about the port and ploish, though they help,  first thing you need to do is check the compression,  if you have 130 or better  on every cylinder  (i have 165 psi per cyl,) then  you have potential  for more power,
using this cam ---> http://www.toyotacatalog.net/M1WebGear/ProductDetails.aspx?PartUniqueID=2346B717-3AEB-4B00-A8C5-99A8D264DCBA

you can  get  plenty of horsepower.    another thing,  NEVER try to use 5th gear  when towing
AR-TTORA founder 22R bored.060,LCE stage II race cam http://pure-gas.org/    32/36weber, :driving: Marlin 1200 NON ceramic clutch, L52SHD+dualcase #2919, cable-locker, Yukon 5.29 gears, 35's, Allpro ebrake, front springs, and high steer, F150rears    RIP Nitro 9-29-07 :(  I sure miss him :down: MarlinCrawlerInc IS NOT affiliated with TrailGear in any way

ok so how do you test for compression? Now I got a cam in mind that is a good price. Now I need to find a header for cheap. What else can I do?

...I am a broke white guy...

Assuming that this information is important to your post, I am forced to deduce that you are having problems finding a good paying job because potential employers are too busy not discriminating to hire a white male.

Can you imagine if the hospitals were forced to hire as many male nurses as female nurses?  We'd all die and nearly half of the potential nurses wouldn't be able to find a job.

Back to the regularly scheduled program.

i have to disagree, my elec fan works better than stock, and i think that every little thing you can possibly do to a 22r all adds up, and an elec fan is one of them

you just have to get a big enough fan to cover most of the radiator and mount it on a piece of sheetmatal to seal off the rest and tada instant cool, and less motor drag, i did my elec fan swap for under $50, i got a fan at pick n pull off a newer chevy approx $15, and a piece of sheet metal from all metals approx $5-8, and a thermostat from kragen approx $15

i am 20 years old and no i don't make a whole hell of a lot of money, I have a lot of things on my plate. making less than 9.00 an hour, trying to pay for a wedding and bills. it adds up so i don't appreciate you comment. Not even sure why you had to say anything like that in the first damn place!

You can find Ford Taurus fans at pick yards for pretty cheap.
That's the really strong electric fan right?
