yes a header does something, it allows exhaust to flow freely, but it doesnt do much if you have the rest of your exhaust stock

i am 20 years old and no i don't make a whole hell of a lot of money, I have a lot of things on my plate. making less than 9.00 an hour, trying to pay for a wedding and bills. it adds up so i don't appreciate you comment. Not even sure why you had to say anything like that in the first damn place!
i  think he was joking around about the racial comment....Im sensing some hardcore sarcasm there....

If you make 9 bucks an hour and have a dedicated trail rig, a sand rail and looking at buying an 05 taco....I would say you are doing pretty damn well! :hahaha:

a cam, header, exhaust combo will give good power
i would agree with this statement... not much power is gained unless all 3 of these modifications are made

Does any place make something like an aluminum crank pulley for 22r's?  The stock on is pretty beefy, a lighter pulley could help reduce rotational mass.  Don't recall if I have ever seen one though.

Dripping with sarcasm indeed.  I work for the government and got a copy of an email that told the managers to remember that the engineering department was "focusing" on hiring female engineers this year.  They have quota's to meet even if it means discriminating against white males like myself.  I wasn't intending anything personal towards you or your abilities.  I thought it interesting that you included the fact that you were a "white male" in your post.

Remember, just any old header won't necessarily help.  Don't get dooped into buying a pacesetter, they're not that good.  Just having a header will not do it, having a good, well designed header will help to aid other mods done.  A long tube 4 into 1 (harder to find) or a good tri-y are going to yield better gains for these engines.  The pacesetters are just tubes mounted to a flange, no engineering there!

The boys at downey seem to be pretty good i have headers and intake wich work pretty good but thier on a 3.slow. I asked them about some of thier other performance stuff for the 3.0 and was nicely told besides sending my injectors in for balancing thats about all the perfomance i would get without dropping big money. :burnout:

My 94 is running the LC header with their high flow cat and 2'' piping back to a Flowmaster 40. (too loud)
LC claims the header adds 10-15 hp depending on the the other mods to the engine, intake, exhaust, mass air etc...
This was kinda pricey but the install was fun and well worth it in the long run.
 The truck definitely pulls harder.
I also got a k&n filter charger kit that helps a little.
looking back a snorkel would have been better!

Some shops around here take the stock 22r/re manifold and cut off the 3 bolt flange. Then weld on a custom fitting  with larger piping. a kind of homemade header.
I shoulda tried that b/f the getting the LC header.....
22RE .30 over, mild cam, K&N, LCE header, 2.25'' pipe, high flow cat, Magnaflow.
 Marlin 1200LB clutch

 no substitute for 4wheel drive.

i could do a 3rz, but not the 5u-fze cause v6 wasn't an option in 85. the 3rz has what to go along with the swap?

so if I were to get a...

Cam, Header and full exhaust, electric fan, port polish, bigger valves, I wonder what gains I would get?
go to a parts house  and buy a "compression test kit"   about $20,  remove all 4 spark plugs  and go from there,

unless you are going torebuild the engine  dont  throw money into a port and polich  since  this requires rebuilding of the head

you CAN  install a cam without  disturbing the headgasket  but its a  chance  you can,  i have the exact cam i posted for you,   and wouldnt trade it for anything

if you DO  remove the head  for a new gasket, have it milled  but ONLY  enough to smooth it out  DO NOT  take  .030  off  thats  stupid,  will require  running  a higher grade gasoline,   i did this on a  celica with great results,  tried it on my truck  and the first time i towed  i  blowed a piston to pieces  because of detonation

and a 20R  head  WILL NOT  work on a 85 block

lets see  what else OH,  you  can do the cam now  and add the header later  but  GET RID OF THE STOCK tube after  the  twin pipes  go to a single pipe,  the single pipe  MUST be a 2 1/4 inch  tube  or  the cam wont  show you its potential

Anythings possible man... if topar got a 350 V8 in his first gen, you could get 3.4 in your second gen.
 http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=82145

See everyone is trying to squeeze the most power they can out of these little 2.4 L (including myself) But the truth is that after you spend all the money to port and polish, bigger valves, header, fan etc. you'll be pretty damn close to the cost of a junked taco with a 3rz or 5vze that with some work will go right in.

My buddies dad put the stroker motor from LC enginering in his 91 4runner and after all was said and done it cost him about 6 grand.  Yeah he has a nice strong motor that's almost as powerfull as the 3rz but cost him about 5 grand more than what he could have got a 3rz with vvti that puts out like 168 hp.  Now he went and spent 3 more grand on a super charger that he's havin nothin but problems with trying to get installed.  For what another 68 hp at most? Still he'll be below what the 5vze will put out with about twice the cost.

All i'm trying to state is that 22r are great reliable motors that will move your truck up and through anything you want to put it through. Maybe a little slower than the everyone on the road with you but to expect alot more power out of this small simple engine is just not going to happen.  It's lacking the technology that the new stuff has and was never built to be a high output motor. You can do all this stuff that these guys are telling you to do but dont expect to pull that sandrail 75 mph up hills in 5th gear or anything.  Just cruise with what you got and be happy that you have the most reliable motor ever made.  :soapbox:  :best:

well i just put a rebuilt carb on my truck (it was running really shitty, not responsive and hesitation) well the other carb didnt do anything. So now I am at a loss. I want to do a 3rz but i am not sure how much it will cost. I would like to sell my truck within the next year.
