how does it pull, slow are at high way speeds. What about hills?

The LCE header adds some good throttle response and  mid range power. If you pin it taking off in in first  you will notice a surge of power starting somewhere around 3 and  up to over 4000 rpm.
This is accompanied by a ridiculous throaty whaaooogh !!!!
Too loud, but sounds way better than any rice rocket.
The header certainly helps on long up hills  where I can hold 65-70 most if not all of the  way
However I'm only running 31'' cooper discoverer mudders
Gotta say though the header is hella fun !

If you put in a 3rz I don't think that you will be lookin to sell the truck.  I would say 2k for a 3rz swap if you get a good deal (which is out there) and buy the harness.

Some shops around here take the stock 22r/re manifold and cut off the 3 bolt flange. Then weld on a custom fitting  with larger piping. a kind of homemade header.
I shoulda tried that b/f the getting the LC header.....
Anyone have pictures of this?

I'd like to see a picture of that too. i've got a spare 22r pipe and i'd like to try that before spending more $$ on a header.

A local repair shop in Eureka called Leons makes a homemade header from the 22re manifold.
A guy my buddy bought some tires from had one and he said it was great.
I'll try to dig up some pics of this.
I would like to make one of these too, but I've never welded cast iron.
I've heard it's much more difficult than mild steel. Requiring preheating and  post heating or cooling over long duration to avoid cracking.
 I dunno...

the stock  manifold  will work fine  if  you dump the twin pipes into a 2 1/4 exhaust,  if you neck it down to the stock size  like into the stock cat then  you cut the power

modifying the pipe that bolts to the cast iron manifold was what i was thinking too. isn't 2 1/4 the normal size of the 22r exhaust pipe? is it measured from the pipes outside diameter?  :headscratch:

no 2 1/4 is what most people upgrade to, ive seen some with 2 1/2 but that doesnt leave enough back pressure IMO

This is one of the most common misconceptions.  I see it pop up enough, I think I'm just going to put this in my sig line.

2.5" tubing does NOT reduce low end, period.  I have personally proven this to be true when I necked down from 2.5 to 2.25", adding a 2nd smaller muffler in an effort to make my truck quieter.  With 2.5 I could chug up an incline at a very low rpm, stab the throttle and light the tires up at will.  Once I added the second smaller muffler, a straight through design, the truck would lag, building speed very slowly and bogging.  I lost my low end grunt from making that one simple change.

Run whatever size you want, but it doesn't make a huge difference.  These engines are so anemic to begin with that nothing you do without getting inside the engine or changing the aspiration will make a very big difference.

There are many misconceptions about exhaust, so personal experience weighs heavily on what I do.  I know what works for me because I've tried several different variations, but will be switching to a different header and a magnaflow and am eager to see what gains, if any, I get from this swap.
RIP KYOTA

my truck has 1 1/2... I took my exhaust off yesterday and found that my down pipe off the manifold was badly cracked, the cat was all broken inside, and pieces of the cat were in the muffler. The muffler was all broken too. So here is my new question. I have a bender and a welder. I am wondering what kind of exhaust to put on, I was thinking of doing a custom down pipe into 2 1/4 with a removable cat, a turbo muffler, and it will end out the back. I also was looking on summit and found a few parts. CRN-704-0012, crane cam, DTE-542Y-0 Header, OFY-6259DP alum. intake man. KNN-E-2820 k&n intake, electric fan, custom exhaust, adjustable cam gear, find some used 35 all terrain bfgs on alum. rims and that should put me right at about 140 hp witch isn't too bad. I would use the bfgs on the road when pulling something (lighter)

I found a 30 lb flywheel on summit and was thinking that it has to be heavier than stock. LCE has a 35 but you have to use thier clutch and I just got a clutch. So a heavy flywheel would help Right

I ended up using 2 1/4 inch, with a kragen muffler no cat. It runs good but still once it is warm it runs shitty. I don't have to work until 3pm so lets do it. I just want it to run good, that is all I ask!!!! lol. I will give you a call.

I think a heavier flywheel will help to keep your momentume up at low RPMs but your throttle response will suffer being that it's more rotanional mass having to be spun.  And no i'm pretty sure that the oem flywheel doesn't way that much.

around 23 lbs  i think
you would be better off just  having your stock flywheel surfaced  and use it

Doug thorley  is a good header,

K&N is a good  intake filter,

dont waste your money on the ofy intake  you WILL NOT  be pleased

dont waste money on a crane cam,  if  you want a cam get one from LCEngineering or DOA  Crane  just  cut a cam  to fill the slot in there catalogue,  LCEngineering  tests  there stuff in the desert

i think i already   gave you a recomendation  for a cam

if not  i can

WOW 7000 rpm! does the stage 2 cam let you spin it up that high? I've heard that toyota sets a really low redline on their motors (all the internal stuff is built to handle more rpms but the cam sets it's redline... floating valves and what not).  Does LC say the cam will let it spin up that high without problems glen?

You can find Ford Taurus fans at pick yards for pretty cheap.
That's the really strong electric fan right?

You sure can, and they sure are.  Too bad they won't fit if you plan on having an engine in the bay.  The fan motor is about 2" too long and there's nothing you can do about it.  I fought with the li'l b*std for about a week and it just simply flat out will not fit.

no  they advise not going over 6500,  i was  racing a dude in a Ranger,  and after loosing him  just stayed in it  to see how far it would  go , needless to say  a  exhaust valve hitting a piston at 7000  does   a  fair amount of damage  :rivers:
