Ya heres an update for ya =P I havent touched the truck since i put 44's on it. Been bored to death with it and fishing my ass off BUTTTT i decided to start it up today so here ya go

Yes my neighbors hate me
Yes there is some janky ass stuff going on under the hood there
Yes it will be fixed at some point when i actually give a damn

So now that rice season is over and the snow wheeling season is here i have an itch to tinker with this POS. I really need a new steering column. The weird almost CV type joint at the firewall spit its guts out due to no fluid in the power steering and 44's + pavement. Anyone have a 4wd one ? 84-88pickup or 89 4runner.. i had like 5 of them last year but i scrapped them all >.>  I guess i could possibly try to rig somthing up but im really lazy and i want to just swap it real fast lol

All good. I may run down there tomorrow anyway to have a look around. I want to try and find some coil springs that will hold up to the V8 for when i link the front. Going to take one last look and see if maybe i can just put the thing back together, Its like it spit the clip and somthing else that holds it together. Its all still sitting on the steering shaft so we'll see.

So i yanked the column today and looked it over. The snap ring that holds the shaft and guts in was bent/broken and wouldnt stay in the groove.. so i busted out the welder and made my own damn snap ring !



Just need to get a new battery, put some power steering fluid in and change my tires and im set to wheel i think.. maybe hook my heater up

Ya you can use it. basically just buy the blades and its all good. I went to marysville to performance auto supply and picked it up for like 70 somthing out the door since pettersons in chico didnt have any

Spent the last hour and a half/45 mins on one tire. and went from basically bald to this..




My hand is killing me now lol. gonna take a break for a while then do another one tonight. maybe bust out the other two tomorrow.

yeah i wish it wasnt so ragged looking but im thinking maybe they will grip even better in the snow like that. I basically went through all my old grooves then took about 3/8ths off the carcass in the center and between the lugs.. took maybe 4 pounds or so of rubber off the tire

BTW if anyone wants to learn how to or try their hand at grooving tires feel free to swing by and i'll letcha go after some of mine. Dont worry i wont let you ruin them =P

Is there a ton of rubber before it hits the belts?    When i grooved my iroks i went a hair too deep and hit steel belts

yeah almost 3/8ths. i hit the belts in a few spots but not too bad. luckily these arent steel belts too ! would have gone through so many blades by now.. just got done with the 2nd tire and still on the first blade

I got it for free a long time ago and it was taken apart since it stopped working.. last year i ended up digging into it and seeing what was wrong and found a capacitor came un soldered so i soldered that sucker back up and it works great ! just cant find the screws to it to put it back together so i just been using it like that XD

And there isnt much smell when using a grooving iron The knife part does most of the work it just heats up to 250watts to make it slide through better.

Matt that does look just like my groover except the handles are different.   Is that one much better?

Yep this one doesnt need to be unplugged every 20 mins or so. Ran it for over 4 hours straight yesterday no problems.  They normally run between 60-70 bucks.  http://www.idealtiregroover.com/products/Ideal-Tire-Groover.html
