We can't be everywhere.

As far as the Trail Gear issue. I totally agree that new members coming in here with Trail Gear parts should never be flamed for it. They are just another company out there, and most wheelers are totally unaware of the TG e-drama.
Like Gittin so aptly put it:

Seriously though trail gear will be around for a while, and we forum member should do Marlin crawler a favor and welcome those who have bought from trail gear. By opening our minds to those trail gear product owners, we will all but guarntee their next purchase if from marlin, which in turn will allow Marlin to lower his prices, and become the force to be reconed with.

I think the best way to answer this question is to direct it to someone that's been modded and why. Where is Jim when we need him? Usually those that have been don't understand it until later and then settle in with the group or leave. Not every forum is for everybody, correct me if I'm wrong but this forum is set up for tech but eventually evolved into more than just a tech forum. If you feel you've gone beyond the level of tech supplied here you could do 1 of 2 things, share that knowledge or leave. I think sharing is the way to go teach those that don't know, don't flame someone for not knowing where his fuse block is just point him in the right direction. I think the mods are very easy to deal with here, they only have a few no, no's that they must adhere to and monitor since the owner of this bulletin board is a business man and doesn't want to offend someone with something that doesn't belong here. Even still there are a few threads roaming around here that push that envelope to the limit. Note what I said MARLIN owns this bulletin board not the mods and they do what he says belongs here.

Yes shamb your right, and I do feel like I fit in here(like a square peg in a round hole), but there are some things here that bother me really bad. I try to give my opinion then I back down becouse I fear starting an e-fight. I will pm ya with some details if ya want. Bascally if the forum is good for everybody them I am a minority, and should find a new home , but if things need work, I would be willing to help however I can, short of being a mod of course.

I see this thread grew quickly over night, I didn't read all the posts and this may have already been brought up.

But SPEAK YOUR MIND  do not hold back, as long as you keep it civilized and don't bad mouth people then there is no reason what so ever why you can't speak what you feel. Hell everyone knows I do!  I do think this is a cool board with a ton of cool people but if I disagree with someone... then I will speak my mind as to why I feel they are wrong and typically we can come to a understanding or agreement.

Most of it is all in good fun of course.

Exactly,   I keep hearing all this talk about how much folks here might disagree with  a certain cage build here. But not once did I hear any advice offered that could offer the best form of encouragement to improve on his building skills. This would be more help to our community as a whole then to just leave. He did, after all, admit that it was his first build and after all this is probably fed up with the whole idea after being scrutinized instead of helped. I wouldn't blame him a bit . Especially, after all the effort he's put into his build and for his efforts in trying to keep our trails open, even for you Gittinit. This is a family affair remember. How about a helping hand instead of a tongue lashing.  I have met Matt and Justina and they're really cool people. Probably more than you know if you haven't met them. Just my  .  Hope you're out there reading this Matt.

I think this is undeniably a reason why I'll never be asked to be a mod   I've never been one to mince words or say I like something I don't just to keep my place in line with the lemmings.  I've tried to bite my tongue on some subjects, namely anything TG related, but it's sometimes a little harder than I care for and I just say it.  Some people probably don't like me for this, but who cares? 

I won't name names, but I feel some mods do a better job than others at staying objective and keeping the peace and some do an excellent job.  Some people are just emotional by nature and it carries over into every aspect of their life, real or internet.  The beauty of the internet is you can sit back, take a deep breath and think about the reprocussions of what you say.  Some people get that and stop, then others throw down 16 posts in a minute bubbling over.

I didn't offer any advice at all and I should have, but how do you tell someone to remove everything they have just spent the last two weeks, or longer creating, only to start over by doing more research, coping his notches better, and start with acceptable material. And even after saying that why would he not just blow me off for another week like he did after my first round of questioning?

At least some pipe that will weld properly. Do you understand what it takes to weld galvanized? Do ya know that welding galvanized is harmful to your lungs, or that becouse this is galvanized pipe it will be somewhat brittle where the heat has crystalized the metal near the welds.

If you were as good a friend as you seem to be you would be worried for his saftey too. I don't know him personally, but He is an asset to this forum, and I would hate to see anything happen to him.

Well you da boss! I'm just sad to know that this is OK to be shown on this forum. In a sense it makes it ok to show whatever life threatening mods we choose. But DON"T show you driving your death trap on a tree, that would get removed real quick. Cruzilla, this is wrong to be shown here and you know it. Someone needs to change the rules to make this forum better,why not make a stand?

I don't see censorship as making this forum better.  If you start censoring content, where do you set the rules?  What about the photos of people grinding without safety glasses?  should we take those off too, because that isn't safe?  I know its not quite the same thing, but where would the line be drawn?  You're mentioning that a certain mod bashing TG at a near constant level is a bad example, and that he should show more "tolerance" to the people with TG stuff on their rigs, but you don't want to show the tolerance to allow a build to be shown, even if it is, in your mind, subpar.  Granted, this specific one has a lot to be desired, but that is true of many builds.  Even by putting the photos up, and allowing people to comment, is helpful.  If Matt hadn't asked for advice, or gotten the comments he did, he may have done things differently, and less safely.  Thats what the biggest benefit of the forum is, so that people can learn and improve their work.  If you censor the content, the people with little knowledge or $$ won't post, and you'll have a bunch of missed opportunities to help your fellow wheelers.

The line should be drawn when life threatening modifications are passed of to be a good thing or even funny. There should be a line a bold dark line. Like the shifter that is a spike of sorts, that I feel is life threatening , and another one of the things I think shouldn't be shown here. Its not my place to say, but someone needs too.
When someone dies on the trail it give firepower ro those people trying to shut our trails down, and that is a shame.There is a world of young minds out there who are just waiting to learn. I don't think we should teach them the wrong way to do it, when the right way dosen't take much more effort.

For god sakes. Welders die of Parkinsons all the time. Firefighters have excellent pensions because they are not expected to live long enough to enjoy it. Should we not have any firefighters because their life expectancy is shortened. Should we ban welders? Where DO we draw the line??

He triangulated the hell out of that center section. Did it with bad arc welds. Used steel to do it. So what? If he dies it will be HIS fault and no one else's. I doubt he will die in an accident and what he has built will SAVE his life. It is all good.
