Sorry guys, had a bad day yesterday.
Anyways, as I was tightening down the nut on the new $175.00 fuel pump I broke the damn stud, the nut with broken stud fell to the ground into the weeds, so after a 1/2 hour of looking for it in the weeds I finally found it. On the fuel pump I can only get the nut on a thread and a half. Well I soaked that biotch with locktite and put it on there best I could but I'm waiting until it cures before I put it back in the tank. Should I put JB weld over that to hold it in place better?

??? this requires pictures, can't make out what you are talking about ???

Nope, a 3" long 7mm wrench.

Shamb

i'd put JB weld on it if it was mine.... definently don't want that thing coming loose   :_oops:

any update on the throttle problem?

i've actually asked a few buddies that work at local shops to see if they had heard of that, one said he didn't have a clue.. the other said he'd do a little research and get back to me with his findings.

So, after snapping that tiny stud off :smack: there was 1.5 threads left sticking out, I secured the terminal and nut on the stud with locktite and let it dry 24hours, and now I just put a glob (.1 oz) of epoxy going from the top of the nut to the base of the stud in hopes that that will hold under fuel. Unfortunately that takes 24 hours to cure also, so I'll be putting the pump in tomorrow.

Right now I am hoping they are the same problem. :crossed:

It would have been quicker and easier to have soldered the terminal to the stud and then the nut to the stud. This connection is for electrical connection only, right? Don't know how well jb weld or locktite will hold under fuel. but if you have the nut good and snug, shouldn't have any problems. I do believe that this will fix your throttle problem, also.

Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Lack the necessary tools for that procedure. :hammer:

subbrat

let me know it it works I may have another way to fix it. I have a few lightly  used pumps at work.

Hey Mini, just for the sake of knowing, I would also test the pump electrically to be sure it didn't get insulated with all that stuff on there before installing it.  At least then you wouldn't have to take it back out if it doesn't work.  :beerchug: Good luck!

Deffinetly, I tested it before I put the locktite on, and I'll test it today before I put it in. :yesnod:

BigMike

I have not been following this thread.

So the whole problem was the fuel pump?

I know its too late now, but you should have gone with a used Toyota Supra 7M-GTE pump. It is a Denso pump and I would trust it more than I would some auto parts store pump. Best of all its a direct bolt in pump with more pressure/volume capacity.

Regarding your posted picture above, why are you not using the factory clamps? They are smaller, and what makes me nervous, is that you should trim off the excess clamp to prevent the clamp from shorting out the connections to the pump. :o

Regarding JB Weld, this is a rookie question: Does it hold up under gasoline/injector cleaner?
