Have you had time to check the fuel pressure yet?
flow was checked before and after the filter, but not pressure.

Have you read the thread?

Yes I have and was under the impression that you were going to check the pressure. I was just wanting to know if you had checked it yet and if so what it was.

I just got back from the NAPA.  The Mac FIPT that I have should be able to thread onto the fuel filter and tee off right there.

MINI...when is the next work day? :haha:

no, I don't drive to tracy for my health...and I have to try to save for MCR6.  I'm thinkin next Sunday.

how is the bast timing? is the cam in synch with the crank? when my timing chain guides/tensioner were going out, it would skip teeth, and not go past about 3k rpms... ever.... reset the timing, and had full power back until the next time it skipped

According to the timing light. However, the mark was kinda wiggling a little bit... :headscratch:

it will wiggle because the engine is moving... im not talking about timing it with a timing light, i am talking about internally, making sure the head and the crank are both synched with each other.... at first, i had no idea about this, i had been timing it with a light and it appeared good, it wasnt until a lot of searching online did i even know that i needed to look into the engine and make sure the crank and cam both saw each other at the same spot, thats where i found out my engine had skipped teeth on the came, it ran, jsut not very well, it wouldnt go past about 3k rpm, ever... until i relined the cam and crank, than it was back to normal until it slipped again

you'll need to pull the #1 spark plug and check for tdc, pull the valve cover to check the cams location, and also the dist cap to make sure thats all good and lined up and not 180* off

I assumed that's what he meant.  Which is it Kyle?

MiniSimp

If teeth have skipped on the cam, I don't know about it.
When it was originally put together it was set up correctly.

Duffil

well, yank the valve cover and have a look-see.

Tice

Just pull the #1 plug and turn the engine by hand with a finger over the spark plug hole, turn till air comes out (compression stroke) and then line every thing else up.  I'm sure you already knew that!

There is no way in hell that it will be 180 degrees off.  The engine wouldn't even run then.

I'm going to put the EGR through the whole FSM test.

Are you sure? Cause my brother just rebuilt a two motors, and on both of them he had the same symptoms as mini. It ended up being that the timing was waaaaay off. Even after he checked it a couple times.

But... wasn't this thing running fine off and on?

Not really, it ran ok for about 4 minutes.

Way off is not 180 degrees off.  The firing order is completely reversed this way.

If you block the egr connection at the rear of the intake plenum, any problem with that will no longer affect the engine. I'd try it. It's only 2 bolts and something to block it with (a penny will just squeeze inside the gasket).

This is exactly what I was thinking the problem is. All of the vacuum controls could be operating properly, but if the valve itself cannot close,...
It ain't worth doin' if you don't have to clean up afterwards!

that might be a little low.

change the filter and check the screen on the pump. if you have a b/l the screen should be easier to check.

Good idea WM. I would do that first, because that will tell you if it is a bad f/p or clogged filter/screen.
