truck wont start
« on: May 30, 2007, 11:06:33 AM »
went to start up my truck today after doing a little welding and we couldnt get it going Angry, we disconnected the battery while welding too.  then after a bunch of tries it started up and we shut it off to put the air cleaner back on and then it wouldnt start back up.  we checked the spark plug for spark and nothing. when sent power to the primary side of the coil and attached a lead to the secondary side the coil sparked the module is getting 12 volts to it. we checked the power going to the hall effect sensor( i believe that is what it is ) it had .67 volts on one terminal and nothing on the other.  any ideas what could be wrong?

try the pickup generator in the distributor. it's the thing with the wire coming out and goes to the connector on the valve cover. or air gap. thats what happened to me a while ago.
lets not and say we did.

How much voltage do you have going to your coil? The factory manual for a my 79 says it should have 6 volts when checked from the positive to negative side of the coil with the key on. Your rig is newer so I'd think it would have more. Check your fuse's and wires coming from your ignition if not.. you may have burned or grounded a wire somewhere... welding can do some strange things..  good luck
