Just yesterday this started happening, i turn the key and nothing happens no noise no click just silence.  after a couple of tries it will finally start, what is going on i already replaced my starter a little while back, could it be the alternator or my ignition???

Thanks in advance

When you try to turn it over can you hear your fuel pump running?

Havent really listened that close but when it does start it is starving for fuel so that could be my problem

Sounds like it may be coming from the ignition switch itself. If you get absolutly nothing, that suggests that the connection in the switch is bad.

Check to see if you get dash lights, and as suggested, check to see if you hear the fuel pump.

Try jiggling the key around a bit to make contacts.

If that does it, I'd just replace the switch. I would also check your grounds, as they can be a mysterious culprit as well.

Good luck

Well thanks for all the info guys, I got back to it today and here is what is going on as of now, The fuel pump is working, the relays are all clicking, the lights on the dash show up, Check Engine, Park Brake, and Seatbelt.  wiggling the key doesnt help.  for some reason i am hoping it is my alternator cause i have a new one kickin around ;) but im sure thats not it. any other ideas would be great ill be workin on it tonight to see if i can get this solved thanks again

Have someone turn the key to the start position, while they are trying to start it, you hit the starter with a crowbar (or something like that). If it starts, you know it is a flat spot in the starter, if not, you know to move on to the next solution.

Does it have a small plug (like a connector to hook up a code scanner) attached to the bottom of the dash on the left side of the steering wheel beside the hood release?

My 85 nissan did the exact same thing.  What year is your truck?  I would turn the key and nothing for at least 3 or more attempts and then it would start.  It was the ground strap that went from the batt to the fender to a bracket on the motor!  The strap was loose due to a bad bolt.  And the cable where the wires were exposed were corroding.  I upgraded the cable to one that had all the ends were sealed and got a cable that was twice the size of the original.  And make sure your connections, grounding locations are free of rust and dirt.   I haven't had a problem since.  I too, checked all the relays, ignition and various other points.  Another thing I upgraded to was the battery cable clamps.  Imports use the small metal/brass clamps that seem to corrode and break real easy!  So, hopefully this helps!  Another trick I did to see if it was a starter was I went to my parts house and bought a starter and installed it and it did the same thing!  And returned it a day later saying it wasn't installed and come to find out it wasn't the starter.  Make sure you wipe it off clean before returning it!!
Is your battery charged up?  If it's your alt, and the battery is charged up, it should turn over and start!  If ya got fuel injection, some vehicles need a good charge on the battery before starting (fords are famous for this.)  Hope you get this figured out!
