ha all I have to say is wow. Great build man I haven't signed in for a couple weeks and BAM 7mgte first gen haha. I would deffinetly consider beefin up your cross member. I have mine with a slit piece of schedule 40 on the botom with the center section recessed in and gussets galore and it still managed to crack and tried falling apart... with that boosted motor and the cases I think you might run into problems later on down the road. Other than that man this things gangster keep up the good work.

Did a couple things the last few days, worked on a dash bezel and finished up the cross member. The to do list is getting smaller. Also fj-rankenstein was over working with wiring, it was a long day of weeding out wires mapping things out and sitting on the ground...but we got a lot accomplished, we got rid of A LOT of truck harness that doesn't need to be there anymore, re routed some wires and started to get ready for some donor car harness to be grafted into the truck harness.

Harness coming together

i enjoy working on the electrical portion quite a bit...  with benp's harness we are stripping everything out of the harness that doesnt have to be there..  basically the same thing that i did to project extend-a-toy..
the things that i deleted out of the harness were:

-the factory wiring for the speakers and stereo...  the connector in the fuse box will be taken out and another connector with heavier gauge wire will take its place..  this will now be a circuit that will power the 7m engine ecu...

-the next to go was the entire a/c portion of the harness... i took all the extra wiring out and will also use this circuit for either the engine swap or something like the electric water pump or some other accessory needing power.

- then, sinse the harness was apart, we took the main power wires/ charging wires that went from the battery and are switching them over to exit on the other side of the harness..  the positive battery terminal will end up sitting on the opposite fender from the stock position so this is where the new power will come into the harness..   i really hate when people do motor swaps and string wires over the engine or just have the wiring be a complete mess..

-the main wire for the starter solenoid also got rerouted through the harness to the other side sinse the starter is on the opposite side of the original 22r...

the wires and connector were then farmed out of the supra harness for the C1, B1 and M1 connections and now are awaiting their new home on the 22r first gen truck harness...  we should then have an engine that turns over and mabey even starts..
the never ending build...

so was there absolutely no way a radiator would fit in the front core support? even without the intercooler?

Reason I ask is Id really like to swap in the 7mgte into my 72 hilux, but seeing as my engine bay is about 2 inches shorter than a 2nd gen(pretty close to a 1st gen maybe? not sure), I dont know how super tight of a fit it would be. I would definately have to cut the core support. and putting the radiator in the bed is not an option for me.

super sick build.

Well just for some reference info, my 7mgte in the 4runner is pretty much as tight as possible to the firewall with no bodylift.  I had to cut the core support out just to move the radiator forward enough to clear the pulleys.  I am also running an electric fan in front of the radiator because there is no room for the factory mechanical fan.  Its tight man!  those straight six's are kinda long.

I wonder if the 1jz or the 2jz are shorter than the 7m?

I maybe could have fit a rad up front but I woulda had to rework a bunch of metal and probably had to ditch the grill or move it ahead lots.
The rear mount rad its not that bad, in the future im gonna ditch the 1.5" lines and go with the fancy an fittings and steel braided lines. Would have been way easier to do that in the first place.

What kinda build are you doin? anything can fit man...cut apart the firewall make it work.

GrenadedToy

Link is in my sig..

I just put a 22re on pane in my hilux but with me wanting to drive back and forth to the trails and around town, filling up is getting to be a pain, milage isn't really the greatest either. and more power is always good  so down the road, I'll probably covert back to gas. I will not conform and buy a tow rig! Its way cooler IMO to drive you're junk to the trail and back.

I heard the JZ motors are like 3 inches longer than the 7m actually..

If I did go this route, Im still stuck between N/A(cheap) and turbo( :driving:).. I figure if Im going through all the work to swap, might as well go turbo, but I want to keep my w56 and diffs alive.

Is it a pain in the ass to work on the motor in such a tight engine bay?

GrenadedToy

not the exact body style of my truck but a 72 hilux none the less.

I spy a 7m...

pumkin toy

I havnt had any problems working on things in my engine bay.  on the sides of the engine there is still plenty of room.  Its just kinda tight to change belts and stuff up front, but really not too bad.

I started some inner doors panels, I made them out of 14 gauge, they are a little hefty but should cut down on road noise. As well a buddy machined me a beefy tube clamp for the hydro assist.

Im gonna put in a cd player, boost gauge, a couple elocker switches, I don't wanna crowd it to much just gonna keep it simple.

minicrawlin

nice keep it simple is where its at!
couple elocker switches mean your going with two selectables instead of the aussie in the rear?
