I haven't seen anybody given him crap.  I have seen people concerned about safety, that is all.  Has it led to debate, yes.  There is nothing wrong with that.  Actually, if anything, people have learned more about the subject from the debate.  Very nice link to eatabowlofrichards.  Now that is the Marlin Crawler way isn't it.

Funny I think one person even removed all his posts because he thought this build was so bad and dangerous. I don't know if he was siting fact he knew or 3rd party hearsay but using pipe is not as bad as one might think it is just heavier and doesnt' come with a rating. I think those that don't like it should voice thier opinion instead of going all goofy before they actually see what has gone into building it. My guess is that if they just showed up with it all done and painted nobody would have even noticed that it was not tube.

Just expressing my opinion on others opinions. He knows it's not DOM, at least he is trying to protect himself in some way. And if anybody wants to question the strength of pipe when used in a roll cage PM DirtySkiveys (sp?) His entire exo cage is made from the crap and usually flops on every run (too much shop time, not enough on the trails!)

I feel the Marlin way is to help people with their rigs, no matter which path they choose. If by-the-book personal safety is a requirement for posting what you are doing, burn my whole truck right now. :twocents:

Blingn

there are alot of people on this and other boards that have used this steel.  I know of 2 people right off hand that I dont want to say who they are because I dont want people to give them crap, have made a cage out of it, and it worked just fine.

Hottrod81

Like I said, this has led to a good debate and maybe has educated people.  People that have expressed their concerns are worried about the safety of others.  I think that great people are looking out for others.

Lady Di

As we have said before, if people see things on the build thread that they feel is unsafe or should be done differently, the best thing to do is not to flame and criticise, but advise.
A good conversation/debate is a great tool for learning as well.

matt and justina-

ive pretty much supported all the weird you guys are doing...cause thats what we do when we dont roll in money all day.

but ive pretty much kept quiet about my experiances with poo pipe

Justina has seen pictures of my 85-and im sure she can attest to the fact that i wheeled the snot out of it

but what most people dont know is that i used over 100 feet of galvanized pipe to make my exo

i ground off the coating before welding like everyone has mentioned.

but i got crap from the "pros" for a long time.

i wheeled with the pirates down in johnson vally and they gave me crap the whole time, i rolled the truck twice, lightly, and everything held-but i still got crap.

until day three when i lost control and rolled the truck 7 times end over end.

when the dust cleared my front axle was gone, but the cage was fine minus a ding in pipe about 3 inches long that did not push through

they all shut up after i walked away from that one

so the moral is=

are you using the best pipe? no

but overbuilding and welding with quality welds is a good way to insure it will hold,
the fact that i am alive after that roll is proof that the cage, properly built, can hold when built with poo pipe.

so enjoy the hobby you two! Lord knows yall are working at it twice as hard as half the people on this forum.
