30th Birthday...A Big Deal?.
« on: Apr 09, 2007, 10:30:17 PM »
I don't know how to start this thread  :shake: ,One of my good friends turned 30 this last weekend and his GF planned a big surprise birthday party for him in Vegas during the Viva Las Vegas event.I didn't go because I wanted to stay home and work on my rig, then just a few minutes ago I get this phone call from my other good buddie's sister telling me that she's planning a big surprise 30th birthday party for him and wants me to attend. Now,I didn't think it was a big deal untill I started thinking I'm gonna turn 30 in a few months. So I started thinking about a lot of things and all of a sudden I'm depressed   .I have no real reason to,I'm 29,married,have 2 beautiful sons, some toys,a great job and LOTS of great friends.I don't expect a surprise party, hell I haven't had a b-day party in years nor did I throw one for my wife when she turned 30 a couple months back.I guess I'm just curious as to what those of you that HAVE reached or passed that age did or how you felt or if it was even a big deal for you because I guess it seems to be a big thing for some people  :dunno: .

I am not near that age but if nothing else it sounds like a really good excuse to party with some good friends.

Hey bro, I'm coming up on 34 (at the end of the year) but, I feel great about it all. 30 is no big deal. Life is the same, I just act as young as I feel. And I have no plans of growing up any time soon    :beerchug: Turning 30 did change or bother me one bit, its just another day.......

I see it this way.  It is how old you feel inside that counts.  If you can wheel, come home be with the kids, wrench all day, and still have a good time partying hell who cares how old you are.  I have met 50 year old guys on the trail that can whoop up on us youngsters.  Shoot NOT calling Marlin old but at his birthday no one could keep up with that guy.  He was under those rigs so fast and fixing stuff so fast the younger crowd stood there shocked.

I actually had a really hard time turning 30. Didn't happen when I hit 40, but for some reason 30 was a big deal to me. I've talked to others who have felt the same way. My theory goes like this...

Wanna be 13 so you can be a real "teenager"
Wanna be 16 so you can drive
Wanna be 18 so you can vote
Wanna be 21 so you can drink
Wanna be 25 so your insurance rates come down

Then...........

What...wanna be 65 so I can retire?????

Not sure, 30 is kinda an age I never really thought about making it to, then when I actually made it it was like "Whoa how the hell did I get here, and what to I have to show for it?"

Dunno, just some random thoughts on the subject.

I hit 30 last september and I honestly dont feel any different. It did make it a little better considering i got to spend it in Germany. Dont worry bro, you shouldn't need Viagra for at least ten more years.

I'm actually looking forward to turning 30 this year because people still confuse me with a college kid (I'm 29 and 6 years past my 5 year college sentence) and sometimes even a high school kid.  I think it will be fun to convince people that I'm really 30!

If you're having trouble dealing with being old, consider this:

(1) Only 10 years from 40
(2) Only 20 years from 50
(3) Halfway to 60
(4) Almost half your life is over and the older you get the faster times seems to go...
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

Moab Tested & Rubicon Approved

Never bothered me one bit!  I'm 34, 35 @ the end of the month!  The only thing I notice is I'm a little slower than I used to be, but I still can keep up with the younger crowd when I want to be.  Need a little more sleep.   I have also learned that you tend to stop and think things through before you attempt anything!  That and hangovers get harder to deal with, in each passing year!

You rember that far back????

I turned 30 like 2 weeks ago and although the time leading up to that day was hard, I had a great b day. I did just return from a wheeling trip, and that probably made it easier. Knowing what I do and what I am capable of just makes it all that much easier to accept my age.

How many people are as capable as you at 30?

Just another day.  I woke up, took a turd, went to work and saw chicks in bikinis.  Lather, rinse, repeat, a day's, a day's a day.
RIP KYOTA

You can go through life being scared of the possible, or you can have a little fun and tease the inevitable.

Give a man venison, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to hunt Blacktail, he'll be frustrated for life!
