mixed rear packs from my 82 and from an 86 4runner. i had 6 leaves in the springs at first, the top 3 from both truck's rear packs. then i took out one that was in the middle that was a different shape from all the others, mostly because i wanted it a little softer.  now its perfect. it doesnt lean around corners at normal speeds, but driving fast i have almost rolled it once taking a left turn and hitting a big bump in the road.  if i turn really suddenly and hit the brakes, lets say for example in a parking lot parking in a space, one of the back tires will come off the ground.  the springs are pretty soft but i find them to be perfect considering how the work off road. they work amazing, plus COST ME NOTHING

looks like you need a longer bump stop or your shock needs to be mounted higher, your shocks are bottoming out. looks like you have pretty good flex to me. Nice Truck!

ya, i have taller bumpstops and bigger tubing to put there. i used the smaller sizes first because i thought it would make it.  :_oops:
not a hard fix though, and i was driving real slow when the shock bottomed out so it didnt suffer any damage. whew

realized today my fuel pressure sending unit leaks oil, and thats the reason theres oil all over my axle.

wrapped my header today with header wrap.  WHAT A DIFFERENCE! WOW!

tonight im going to take my weber apart yet again and re-route the float bowl vent to a catch can so i can go up steep hills.

more on this later....

thank you  ive put a lot of work into it

heres what im doing... this is some great sheit for you other weber guys

hole #1 filled.  the bump you see that i drilled the 7 small holes into is the new float bowl vent.  that bump goes to the hole on the outside of the carb in the last picture

hole #2 filled, both still wet

plugged the top of the old float bowl vent tubes with wax, so the JB weld will settle in and not drain out of the hole. after its dry, remove the wax

the hole where i will attach some 3/8"OD tubing

to be continued...

im gonna get cleaned up and go test it out, i just finished with it.  some problems developed with the carb as far as tuning goes, but i think i have it mostly worked out now.  id describe it, but what ever. ill figure it out. im gonna go try and get to this really good spot in town, its behind a construction site, so its hard to get to unnoticed. it has a REALLY steep dirt wall i can try and drive up and see how it does! i have a feeling the modifications i did WONT fix the problem for some reason though....this just seems too easy. if i go out there and it climbs that hill with no problems, ill be stoked.

Re: 82 build WEBER MODS
« Reply #105 on: Jun 29, 2008, 05:36:51 PM »
yesterday i converted to an electric fuel pump and got to block off the hole in my head where the mechanical one was. i also made my webers float bowl vent into the fuel return line going to the gas tank.  i had some problems with the fuel pressure regulator so for the time being i removed it. the weber 38 runs GREAT with my universal electric fuel pump which is rated at 4-7 psi. the weber only wants 2 to 3 but it runs great and has no problems. ill have to get pics later of the couple things i did, im pretty excited to try it out on some hills and see how it does.

as for you weber guys, re-routing the float bowl vent is REALLY easy. if you are knowledgable enough to put a weber on your truck in the first place, you can do this little trick. you can see the port on the outside of the carb that you will use. its right on top of the float bowl. just get a piece of 3/8th OD copper tubing, sand it a little where you will insert it, and stick it in the hole. i used red loctite on the outside of the copper when i put it in the hole because it hardens up nicely like glue. it works GREAT for this, sealed the tube in there nicely and holds it strong, and its heat resistant. then just route your new tube into your fuel return line. if you dont know which one it is, look at the top of your gas tank and follow the line up the frame rails

still waiting on going wheeling to try out my new carb setup....  electric fuel pumps are awesome! i love my new setup, it works flawlessly.

I just got hired by a company called Quality Stainless Tanks in windsor, ca.  i will be trained as a welder and ill be fabricating stainless steel tanks for wine or beer or whatever.  the starting wage is more than i make now and i will only go up from there.  im considering getting a motorcycle so i dont have to use my truck to drive there every day. although it is only like 10 miles to there from my house...but gas prices just KILL me in my truck getting 15-16mpg............well see.  i met all the guys at this place and within 20 minutes i had a job.  i cant wait to start getting paid to do what i love :flamer:

I have a low mile tranny that hasnt been abused to put in in place of mine with 230k atleast on it. and I have the top shift case on my truck now and the top shift case off the tranny i have. and i have my bud built cross member and plenty of u bolts to choose from to attach it to the frame. ill just have to make another front square driveline, but with a single u joint on both ends this time, and take my rear driveline to a shop and actually get it balanced

tranny and transfercase are out, old clutch is out. im ready to tear into the transfercases tomorrow and get my crawler all setup.  biggest problem right now is i need a way to get the pilot bearing out of my crankshaft. i dont have a puller for it. new bearings are so nice!!! my old throw out bearing and pilot bearing were smoked and were making noise. this is gonna be nice
