how did you do that lock? and what is it out of? i like that

Here's the inside of the lid. Picked up the lock from Osh for $5, tacked the locating ring to the lid and tightened it up.

This is the slot I had to cut in the front for the arm of the lock. It fit perfect with the latch to where the slot is still covered up and you can't see or get to it from the outside.

Hope that helps Jimbo

That is a very clever idea!! I think I will do something like that for my 4runner. The 85 SR5 center console is pretty much useless and I need lockable storage for the summer plus i have an unlimited supply of ammo cans at my disposal.... Thanks for the idea man.

Thanks, i'm also planning to do the same for a larger ammo box i've got and bolt it down behind the seats. Just have to find a way to keep the lid lockable, it's got latches on both sides and no hinge so the top can come off.

For those of you who wanted a build thread for the spare carrier I got one posted up under General 4WD Discussion here: http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=44399.new#new

How much metal did you trim off the rear fender wells. got a pic of the passenger side. In particular what you did with the fuel door. Also did you add any leaves to the rear packs before putting them in?  I love the stance it has and want mine to sit the same or similar.

I cut just over an inch all the way around. If you can see where the fender skin goes flat i tried to cut right along that line.

Here's the gas door. Still need to paint the edges to keep them from rusting.

I didn't add any leafs to the rear springs, I pulled out the overloads which were about 1" thick then put them under.

Thankls thats exactly what i was looking for. You wouldn't belive how many driverside shots there and and how few passenger side shots there are on pirate and here. and if it is a passenger sideits of a 4runner so you can't see what they did with the fuel door.

Most people add leaves to the rears to gain a bit of lift. You're definatly are keeping it low. Any plans for a flat belly or similar?

No problem. Yeah low is my goal. I am planning on a flat belly or close to flat to make use of the clocked adapter i've got on it. Won't get started on that until next month atleast.

Started on sliders today, only got one tacked together and checked it up next to the truck. Used same pipe as the spare carrier.

Yota87Truck

I like your build, its a verry clean cut rig, your triming jobs and half doors look sweet... I cant wait til my rig is something like yours

Yota87Truck

How did you make the half door door handles work out where they are? and how well do they work for you? and if you were to do them again is there anything you would change?

If you take a look inside the door, the handle on the outside when lifted pushes down on the latch with a bar. My uber sophisticated thoughtfully planned out method was a couple feet of bailing wire. When you pull up on the latch, the lever on the inside of the handle goes down (think teeter-totter). To trigger the door latch you have to push/pull down as well. In the stock location it needs to be able to push the latch down but with it down below it only needs to pull so there was no need to make linkage that could take the pushing force, only needed tension. I might be able to get a picture if you want one.

That being said they work great, haven't had any problems with it set up this way. They open every time and they don't rattle going down the street or on the trail. If I was to do it again I'd do it the same way. I might do the cut a different way but i'm happy none the less with how they came out.

I know what you mean by the latch setup, and i like how clean yours is and was thinking about doing somthing like it...
but... i see myself laying on my side and breaking handle to pieces sliding across a rock..

True, either way i've got spare handles if needed and no matter what happens to them i can still open the door very easily. These doors are for beating on anyway.
