I am curious what made everyone chose to get a Toyota 4x4 over the others?

OMG AND WTF, ok, I have no worries about my truck lasting through my unborn childs 21st B-day
Sand, what fun, drop pressure to 12psi, stock tires are still digging, can't afford to get stuck, 8psi, still not working. Find a place to GET OUT, air up, un-lock hubs,  WAIT whats this, hubs are UN-LOCKED already. 2wd, 8psi, stock tires, Oregon sand dunes.

capable, reliable, easy to work on (unless you have the 3.0), and parts are cheap. if i had another small truck, it would be a yota. but, i drive an 81 gmc rclb pickup, only fullsize brand i've never had problems with.

I've always liked the 84-88 body style. Lots of innovation in Toyland. I don't like Jeeps...too small for me.

Couldn't afford the gas/ins. of a dodge ramcharger with a 360 when commuting to school.  Didn't want to lose 4x4 capability, liked toys, and couldn't fit in a single cab, so 3rd gen excab was what I got.

Well I don't actually have one. Mark was into Nissan's when I got my Pathfinder. He had a Nissan truck at the time, but you can't get anything for Nissans, I think he had a Ford 9" and  Toyota in that with a 4.3L Chevy engine.
We had friends with Toyota's... he can tell you more but basically the Toyota diffs are way easier to work on then going with a Dana in that you can remove the chunk and work on it on your work bench rather then under the vehicle.
I know that was consideration 1.
And you all know that we are not all Toyota.

reliable reputation. i had a tercel in high school and that little bugger just ran and ran, well, until it had an unfortunate accident with a tree, but, the funny thing is me and my buddies drove it around the back roads for like 2 more years trying to kill it, finnally, i was just over it, so it sat parked for years.
later, me and my GF got a 91, and i started doing all the mechanics to it myself and realized what a nice truck/engine(22re) it was, now im fully hooked, so now i own 2.
I really love how easy it is to work on, plus its 4wd, 4cyl, so its super cheap on gas, the list goes on and on.
I LOVE MY TOYOTA

I think the question should be why not a toyota? Mabye ya should ask Why a jeep, chevy, ford, whatever.

I've had alot of vehicles since my first a 79 chevy blazer. None have been more reliable, capable, or easily maintained as the toyotas.

I love that video to but remember you 22re would never go through that.  If only we could get diesels here

Here's why

It was the first vehicle I ever went wheeling in 10 years ago and now I own it.  Ever since that first 4 wheel adventure I was hooked and I've owned 10 toyotas now in 7 years

oh yeah and I got tired of fixing my jeep when I owned it.  The toyota was so much easier and cheaper to fix.

odd enough.. my wife got me into Toyota's.

When we were still in high school she really wanted a older Toyota so we bought her one. She got tired of no AC and a rough ride so it became my DD... all history from there.

Four words... BACK TO THE FUTURE

I had forgoten about the truck in Back to the future being a toyota, last time I saw the movie was in the early 90's... anyway the reason I got one was because when I was little, like 8 or 9 I rember going to the beach with my family and there was a HUGE red 1st gen 4runner with the top off and thinking that it was pretty much the coolest truck I had ever seen up untill that time.[

10 years ago i inherited a 95 Chevy S-10 4x4 X-cab, 7k on the odometer, plush interior, ABS, Airbag...it was nice and red but it looked like a 2WD cause Chevy didn't jack it up...it WAS a 2WD with a 4WD package.

The dome light came on when the door came open, only way to stop it was pull the fuze. The "safety driving lights" came on when you started the engine...no choice. The ABS system kept my wheels turning to help me drive...going downhill at 15mph on hot dry pavement approaching an intersection, and rolling right on through, with me screaming at the POS and wondering why the brakes weren't working. The automatic transmission let the engine rev redline before shifting, even during normal acceleration, or didn't shift when towing uphill, dogging the engine. Had all this checked out..."Oh, it's working perfectly."  :bull crap:

Local "horsetrader" i met at a gun store liked my S-10 and wanted to trade me a Corvette Stingray for it. I value things i can use more than stuff that just looks good, and never imagined how uncomfortable the passenger compartment of a Corvette was. Didn't even drive it. But he didn't wanna let me go without working some kinda deal, so we took a ride in this 84 Toyota 4x4 XtraCab he had...way cool! Jacked up from the factory, good 4WD, standard 5-speed stick (doesn't think for you), drive over anything compared to the pretty little S-10.  :driving:

About that time the auto tranny in the S-10 started slipping real bad. 34k on the odometer, but Chevy didnt wanna fix it. Changed the fluid, filter, no dice. One chilly morning it was working fine...i drove to the Toyota stealership and said, "I wanna sell this...how much u gimme?" Took me 15 minutes to convince them i was the owner, no co-signers or loans, title in my safe. They said, "$9,500.00" "Done," says I. "But i hate walking, i'm gonna need a truck."

We go look at 93's out front...open the hood...what a complicated mess. Look at the truck, no scratches, nice paint. You shoulda seen the look on the salesman's face when i says, "Nope, i want something with a carb...something i can work on. And i wanna see some rust." Complete shock, funny as hell. Out back we go...haha...and he shows me a dark grey 87 standard cab 4x4, 5-speed stick. The sides are ok but the floor of the bed's rusted through in several places. We go for a test drive, he gets nervous when i wanna lock the hubs. Gotta make sure the 4WD stuff works, don't we? "Yippee!!"  :driving: They wanted the S-10's stock bumpers...ok, they're in the basement. You're gonna gimme my $2,700.00 RUENEL front and rear ram bumpers with the 9k lb Warn winch back?...Uh...ok, i won't complain about that.  :dunno:

Lemme tell ya, my new (used) 87 Toyota 4x4, even with IFS, best dang 4x4 i'd ever owned...tons better than that POS Chevy...and i'm not prejudiced about Ford, Chevy, Dodge...well, maybe Heep...lol. And i eventually traded the horsetrader a baja bug (no motor) and a POS dodge minivan (blown headgasket & turbo) for the 84 XtraCab too. Took the 87 to Arizona and wheeled the pith outta it. Sold them both, bought the 84 back, sold it to a friend, found the 87 out behind someone's barn and bought it back again too. Pitchers follow...

First 87 4x4                 84 XtraCab 4x4         Current 84 XtraCab 4x4

Solid, reliable, runs (almost) forever if you change the oil, you get to brag about your mileage. Sa mattah, get tired of reading?  :blah:
