Best online guide I've found for CO and UT trails.  Mt. Blanca is about halfway between hwy 160 and the dunes.  Medano is a great trail, very easy but scenic and good camping.  We usually camp off of Medano and then run down the road to Blanca, make the trip up to the summit, and back down to camp.  Makes for a great weekend of wheeling!  Blanca is a pretty tough trail and I'd suggest running it with some company rather than by yourself.

What kind of rig to you have?  Minimum I'd suggest for Blanca is 33's, at least 1 locker, and a winch in your group.  35's and locked F&R would be ideal.

Pull out your rear diff and weld it up and you will have a spool now and the best part is all it cost it $6 for beer and $6 for 80/90

Hey Ryan i am up for a trip. I was just looking on the forest service site and hidden valley is still closed, well Rampart range is still closed and H.V. meets up with Rampart so they all have to be closed witch suck so Illinois Gulch sounds good i have never been there but look like a fun trail. looks like we could meet at the large parking area at the start of Missouri Gulch just off of Highway 67, what do you think? meet at 10 or 11?

well Illinois Gulch meets up with H.V. so i dont know if it will be open?? Rampart is closed until the 15th
we need to find out if forest serves rd 348 is open

OK looking at the map (http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/psicc/maps/mvum_pprd09.pdf) only the north part of 348 is closed witch we dont take. Moab hill is off 344 witch is the first F.S. road we take so we should be ok

As long as we don't get any more drastic weather, Scott Dolus of the USFS as
announced that the trails will be opening this Friday, May 8th at around
mid-day.

The Forest Service has been working diligently over the last couple weeks trying
to clear trees that were downed by the heavy snowfall. Unfortunately, there are
still quite a few left and they still don't expect to be done clearing them all
by Friday, but they have been able to complete enough work to get the majority
of the trails passable.

PLEASE be courteous if you run across section still blocked by trees or snow and
try to minimize damage by trying to get around it. Turn back if you need to
rather than trying to circumvent through the woods.

Also, be aware that the state trails crew will be out next week to assist with
clearing debris and trail maintenance, so watch out for them.[/quote]

Sounds like they are planning to open up on Friday. I wont be down from Greeley until 1pm so i  dont know if that will work for you. I saw over on colorado4x4.org that some guys ran Illinois gulch last weekend and there was no snow, but they had to go in Rampart from the woodland park side since the North gate is closed.

http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=147726 trip report

So I just called the local district office and she said all trails will be opened on Friday, but there still might be downed trees throughout the area. No big deal cause we both have winches. So we can go in through Rampart Range road or go through hidden valley for a shorter run because i get into town later that day

In situations like this (fallen trees on the trail) is it a big no-no to bring a chainsaw and clear the trail yourself?

I will give you a ring when I get into town, I plan on being home at one, so meet at mcdonalds at two? Gives me time to get gas and throw some crap in the truck. I want to check out your mounts for the hydro assist and what not. Can I borrow that tap BTW?

Yeah there was plenty of room, I even needed to out a 1 1/4 spacer in there. they dont offer very many aftermarket reverse rotation fans though, kinda sucked. I might try and find a stock fan, clutch and shroud and adapt it in so they fan isnt always on. I am kinda pissed cause now they offer the same winch with synthetic line for cheap and bucket seats, smitty is making freaking everything now.

Out and hanging on my wall of shame along with the fan. I am going to a 1" smaller spacer and a non flex fan. It willl prolly pull more are at higher rpm's instead of flattening out. I just have to wait to start working tomorrow and get some money

well at least you didn't drop a bout load on it. Ya a 1" would give you more room and throw a shroud on it and you should be set  :crossed:
how much longer did you two have to wait??
