I elaborated in my build thread. But simply, Marlin sent me a wrong clutch plate and they haven't gotten me the right one.

That sucks, just communication issues or customer service problems?

I guess a little of both. They took over a week to look at it, and I called them a few times. finally they got back to me today. They are sending the right clutch plate.

I'm picking up another project next weekend (88 Celica AllTrac  ) and hope to stick a good engine in it and sell it the next day. Hopefully... so I can buy this:
http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/1104700517.html
or this:
http://rockies.craigslist.org/cto/1090758865.html
or this:
http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/1067894677.html
or something like them; beat-up/rusty preferred 'cause I plan to chop metal immediately. There's also an 80 LWB with a plow for sale in Divide for $1500... I got the wheeling itch BAD!

Anyone want an AllTrac?

heh heh... send me $$ and I'll pick it up for you...   :wink2:
I was leaning towards the red-orange 79? (even without a title) 'cause it's cheap, matches my girl's 79 and it's already kinda roughed up so I wouldn't feel bad about cutting bobbing dovetailing flatbellying and all that nonsense.
That 86 sounds like a decent deal but 'just a fuel pump' could be the tip of the iceberg... Either way I'd be :turtle: equipped as much as I could afford.
What makes the 86 better than the 79-85s? Frame's better? Materials used? Just because?

Give it a month

cause if u could get the 86 for $1500, and the 79 for $500, the 86 has way more than $1000 worth of parts over the 79, it has a lift, fuel injection, stronger tranny, tube front bumper, rock sliders and 35's.  it does need new crossover steering, it has some homebuilt pass side arm that is dangerous.

Ah, I see... buy both to make one truck. I didn't see the bad psgr side arm deal. Good eyeballs there, young gun! I'm still trying to amass the funds needed to buy and build a 1st gen for myself here so it'll be ah while before all this planning and hoping comes to fruition.

sooner than later?

hey wakkjobb and boggerunner - I think I may have bought that 86 out from under you...  The owner sold it to me not running telling me it needed a fuel pump and a battery.  I got it to my shop and threw a battery into it and lo and behold - no compression.  Pulled the valve cover and the cam was off by 90 degrees.  Corrected that, threw in some new plugs, and it fired right up.  It still desperately needs gears and new high steer arms though.

That's cool, I never seem to have the $$$ to pick up the deals I find. Good luck with it, how much do you want for it now?? :eyebrow:

j/k, I'll find my own... by my girl's work there's an '86 or later 4x4 LB rusted pretty good... thinking about checking it out tomorrow. Need to fix the DD first and find the #2 AllTrac a new owner

Anyone?

Checked out that '86, it's a short bed- stock 22R, p/s, clutch start cancel, some new parts, great tires (small radials, not big meats), started right up on the first crank, mechanical fuel pump and so on. He's asking $1800 for it which seems fair-ish but I won't have the $$ for a while. Rebuilding the head in my DD and still working on getting one of the AllTracs running. He doesn't have it listed on craigslist yet but he said he might do that. I told him people from around the state are liable to find his truck that way.

On a side note, I'd like to get a 4runner for girl/dog/camping (and SAS ) but no $$=no 4runner.
